I've got one family near me that think it is necessary to put their hazard flashers on when they reverse into the driveway. If your hazard lights were meant to come on when reversing they would be wired up to do so. I don't think the examiner would have been impressed if they'd done it on their tests.

Your sentence started the year before me Centaur and I can sympathise with your comments about the returning of the pots. I can also remember the cheer that went up when some poor bu66er dropped something off the tray. I was fortunate enough to only have one year under Pig Hutchinson, having started with Dave Impey and finishing with Roy Price who both would have run circles round Pig. I don't think it ever dawned on him that his attitude could be counter productive and I never heard anybody speak well of him. I always thought Sooty was president of his own fan club but never had any great problem with him. I don't know if any of the staff we knew who are still alive read this forum but it would be interesting to hear their comments.

I remember the blue bus that stopped at the post office on Beauvale very well. My grandma used to run the greengrocers next door to the post office so we virtually had our own bus stop, very handy.

In those days you could understand every word from the announcers. They never got their words mixed up or had accents that grated on the nerves like coarse sandpaper. Another standard that has been allowed to drop over the years.

Wonder how long it will be before some bright spark decides it would be a good idea to link the new industrial estate to the one at Blenheim?. That is always assuming it is not already in the pipeline and people are just keeping quiet. Never trust planners, they will always tell you their idea is what you need. The fact that you know you don't need it and don't want it doesn't make any difference.

There is always some silly bu66er that wants to shop 24/7 no matter what that keeps them open. I don't know how some of them would have survived in the days when there was no late night shopping and no Sunday opening.

Just watched a programme showing the Flying Scotsman on the Severn Valley Railway. A magnificent reminder of a bygone age which, sadly, we will not see the likes of again.

No wonder there was a rush for the back seat!

My granddad's wish was to be cremated, but his sister talked my grandma out of it and he was buried. His prophesy was that more people caught their death of cold as he called it by taking flowers to a cemetery in winter. My grandma had more colds and chest problems after he'd gone so perhaps he had a point after all.

One elderly neighbour rang me a couple of weeks back and said someone had been in her house and altered all the clocks. Puzzled as to why anybody would do this I went round to check what was going on. All the clocks were right, it turned out she had pressed the button on the tv remote twice and was watching the channel one hour later. When I finished headbutting the wall I asked myself why it is always me that finds the crackpots, or, more to the point, how they find me.

I used to get the 25a from Huntingdon Street when I was at Digby college, this went the opposite way by going via Carlton. We did night school that finished at 7.15 and the bus came down Westdale Lane at 7.20 so it was one mad dash down the college drive to get to the stop in time. If you missed it the next one was at 7.40, not long to wait , but it meant that I missed the connection back in Huntingdon Street so had to wait until 8.15 for the next one. In the middle of winter waiting in the old bus stations was not the most enjoyable of pastimes. Much better when I got a car and came home over Mapperley top and got home in a third of the time.

And the electric buses can steer to get round obstructions in the road. The old trolley buses were more agile than the slug we have got now.

My grandma must have got in early, her number was 507. The instruction was always ringing in your ears when you got her shopping list "and don't forget to give 'em the divi number !". I never would have dared forget it!.

The more somebody keeps saying "right" when they are telling me something the more I am likely to disbelieve them. Likewise the people who speak very quickly make me think that they want me to miss something. My ears work at normal speed, I wish some of their mouths did the same.

Another magnificent building replaced by modern style. No comparison whatsoever. Will todays architects ever learn?
