Thanks CT. It looks like the 40/47 came up Parliament St., turned left down Queen St.,, passed in front of the council house and turned right on to South parade before turning left on to Listergate, then again it gets confusing. When reaching the Sawyers arms and Woolworths, did it continue on to Canal St. and turn right or did it veer right at Woolworths past what was Barry Noble's entertainment?? Somebody will enlighten me. Don't know why but it's driving barmy.

HSR, whereas I've no problem getting around Nottingham (when allowed), last December we went for a fleeting visit via the tram from Toton and I was amazed by the changes. The thing that's bugging me is a bit like an earworm, for some reason or other I feel the need to find out the trolley route of the 40/47, Wells Road to Wilford Road. It's bugging me that I can't recall the route through the centre. Because it was my first solo route, I'll always have fond memories. Changes like Denman Street for example, it used to run from St.Peters St., all the way up to past Highurst St. Now it's just bits, broken up by houses. One surprise I had was finding Kyme St was still there, with the old leather factory still there. That led down to Grant St., where Melissa's mum lived. I would pass those two council houses, (the only two I'd ever seen) on the way to Douglas school. Gonna finish now before repeating myself.

Cheers DDB. Must admit though, we're looking back 58 years, so the mind starts to fog up a bit. After training, in civvies with a regular conductor and getting my uniform and badge, I went with a trolleybus driver who was aware I was a novice. His name was Pete and he was very patient with me. I've been wracking my brains to try and remember the route through the city after passing the Palais and Central Market. Can't think which way after entering Parliament Street. I'm pretty sure we went along South parade, but because of all the changes I'm lost. I know we went onto Wilford Road and down to the terminus at the Toll Bridge. Grotty trollies but Happy days. Barrie.

I beg to differ. We bought some furniture from there and it lasted for years. We bought what we could afford and we were choosy what we did purchase, including, bed, wardrobe, 3 pc suite and sideboard. Couldn't get much else as we started married life in a flat on Burford Road, off Berridge Road. There wasn't an awful lot of room, but it was ours. Rent...57/6d per week.

Do you remember Cavendish? Opposite the Odeon. When we were getting married, we went in Cavendish and was looking at some furniture. I asked, "What sort of furniture could we get with a £70. deposit"?
The guy said, " Blimey, for £70 you can have the bloody store"!
We didnt buy the store though, just a bed bed and three piece suite etc.

Hello Looby Loo ! I do believe you're right. I ought to remember as I used to be a conductor on 40/47 Wilford road. That was back in1962 when I were a lad working out of Carter gate bus depot, before I moved up to Bilborough depot. Had some happy times then, running across the road to the square side to grab a bacon roll from the NCT mobile canteen. Happy Days.

Warner confirmed cancellation.

CT, wasn't there a cinema on your picture? Somewhere near where Giardinos is.

I used to like recording "Sounds of the 60s" on my first cassette recorder, a Philips machine that had like a joystick in the centre, shaped a bit like an inverted "T". Push up to play, right to fast fwd and left to rewind. Never cared for Brian Mathew doing the program as he used to rabbit on too much, usually over the intros. Best presenter was Craig Douglas, he told the the title and let it get on with it. That must have been in the early 70s. Still got those tapes, just haven't got around to digitalising them yet, (either on cd or memory stick).

"Macfisheries" Mary. On the South side of the square, (where the trams stop). There used to be 2 or 3 NCT bus stops there but for the life of me, I can't recall their destinations.
Apart from that, " Good morning".

Hard cheese Lets. Yet another example of "buyer beware", when using eBay. Don't you know if anyone can change the socket on the machine, with a compatible plug? Surely somebody could adapt it for you. Best of luck mate.

Thanks Phil, however, have just received an email from Warner telling me they are high risk tier 3. So the choice has been made for me. They have cancelled my holiday and will be in touch, as to what my preferences will be. So sadly, we won't be coming to Nottingham in December.
Mary1947, if you read this, sorry, maybe next year!
Margie, still hoping for coffee, April next year.

Holiday Just Cancelled !!!

Thing is Phil, they've not said owt yet. I'm wondering if they're waiting to see what happens after the 2nd.Dec.Still getting emails informing me what's on offer and saying it's not too late to book etc.
-
What do you rate my chances then Phil, of getting to Thoresby? Must admit, I don't know where I am with it all. Things seem to change daily. One day, shut yourself away then next day, it's okay, you can mix, but then shut down again.

Best of wishes L.L. hope all goes well with both eyes. You'll be able to see your way clear to lend me a few bob.

Phil, you really are ticking my memory switches. I remember going on the Pride of the Yare as a nipper. Often used to swim around where the row boats were, (could never afford to hire one though). Used to pile our clothes on the steps there and swim under Trent bridge. Once my pal ran up onto the bridge with intention of jumping/diving off. I was in the water below him when all of a sudden I stood up on a pile of bricks etc. so I was only ankle deep, Just where my pal was about to jump ! Fortunately I was able to shout and stop him. We could have only been about 12 or 13. Happy Days Eh.
