Disgusting..I remember Boot's in the 80"s had a swill out team..bleached the whole frontage on Parliament Street including the pillars about 4am..late buses used to go from there back then.
.Fly..do you also work for the tourist board?

Pure Guesswork..gum chewing has to be well below 50 ℅ of what it was 30 years ago. Used to get offered a wrigleys spearmint quite often back then..always refused..wish they been equally generous with their JPS !

I remember Nonsuch - as 'Hairy' kids in Grantham (anyone remember Hairies? A now-forgotten youth culture between the hippy and punk eras), Nottingham was the 'promised land', and Nonsuch and 'the hippy shop' on the first floor of the Viccy were our primary targets, though Miss Selfridge in the Viccy and the original Chelsea Girl on Wheeler gate, as well as Sisson & Parker's and Blackwell's bookshops, and the original (tiny) Token House were also on our shopping itinerary. We ate in a first floor 'Tudor' restaurant on Upper Parliament St, on the north side of the road, can't recall the name.
In later years, I knew a guy who worked on the concrete shuttering when the Viccy was being built: according to him, someone misread the plans and the rear stairs were positioned the wrong way round (should have faced the rear entrance, not the front, as they did) - the concrete had been poured and had gone off before the error was found, so they were just left: I was highly amused that the replacements were put in correctly during the big revamp when the bus station went!
I personally liked the Food Court - working at Trent Poly at the time, it was handy for a variety of grub, especially Edward's Patisserie, which did a lot of Polish cakes, and which moved there from a dreadful street in Hockley (Broad or George, forget which), so I didn't have so far to go for lunch! Still miss both Edwards and the Food Court, though I no longer work in the city centre.
I remember Non Such..squishy badges containing oil & paint..on the right person they were fascinating at the time..didn't they also have a shop on Bridlesmith Gate?

Why can't the so called "clever" websites remember that I have said no thanks or no to some enhancement or new feature and stop asking me every time.
Are you listening Mr Google?
Simply select a different browser?
Won't solve the problem..but at least it's a different Mr!

I Received a new smartphone from my daughter as a present two years ago.. It was very common where I went, i was receiving offers within a few feet of the shop I was near..I agree with DJ360..turn off the sat option..sorted the problem..ish.
Edit..just thought ..these.. on the hole ..were shops where i have store card..strange...suggests a passing of cross information..

There's a way around that Dave, use two proxy servers, or a search engine that dosesn't log you through them, there are several now.
If I were to use two proxy server's, would this slow down my internet speed sufficiently for me to qualify for a monthly rebate from my suppler?

Never went in when Riley's appeared.. a lot more of a commercial set-up ...advent of cable TV etc came to mind.. definitely only pool when I visited..could have been formally the backroom to the imperial...but.think it was to the right, next door. Doubt there would be enough room for more than 3 full size snooker tables. Maybe later redevelopment..as stated in previous post those buildings were huge inside!

Think your right there..the arcade had more of a frontage on the street..went in most of the buildings on St James St..both sides..All huge in comparison to what I was expecting from the humble entrances ..The one exception was the tiny newsagents ..first right market square end..
Also recall on the left market square end was modern sixties..spillover from ugly beast market redevelopment..recall a Ladbrokes there.
-
Cheers Ian..Cascade! That's it...would never have got that!..now I"m trying to recall the one on St James's St..only two that have stuck in memory are Playland & Space City.
I Think the St James's St arcade became a all night pool hall..blue blaise tables..rubbish cues..a free cup of tea at 5am was very welcome though..

'Kind of Loving' with Alan Bates and Thora Hird is a cracker also. Seem to recall a TV remake which briefly featured Toyah Wilcox about 74-75 ..then another remake...
Late Seventies TV..slow Arty F**ty!
Long winded. and over 10 hours long...complete rubbish..
Wish the original film was over ten hours long..

Broadcast On TV Gold..Only Fools & Alan Partridge..played for by licence fee..& no longer on .BBC ..why can't I view..

Think he simply did Parody..haven't seen mudhoney.wasn't the Knack an Alan Lester film? Way superior to a Hard Days Night in my opinion. As people have probably noticed ..My preference is to make errors over resorting to google.
