  1. 10p a pint on Monday's rock night, but you had to buy twelve in a tray, went up to 50p very soon after, slightly less watered.

Only two bands I can recall are Hanoi Rocks and the dreadful Spider..think these my have been Tuesday.

Think I have partial recordings of their sets to this day.

Looking back I should have kept everything but TDK 90s were 79p at Selectascratch..and the cheapest

What was at street level prior to Vision Express, the entrance to the club was by a door to the right, i'm guessing a shop? I have no recollection...

  2. Egregious, ain't to bad, a regular in the independent crossword yonks ago.

Recall Diane Abbot using one of these buzzwords twice within a minute on question time!

    The new one..prepromboglism? (SP)

James O'Brien dropping it big time..

Must admit..a bit of a stretch..even for an MP..

Yes, they are the same scene about 60 years apart. The pub (white building) in the centre of the old photo is just visible in the distance in the new version.

The Blacks Head, went from a face to a horse, and then a generic throw away with frosted new windows , which is now up for sale?lease

I recall an old boy telling me that what is the modern day Costa and to the right of pic, was were he watered his horse,

I do know he was a milkman about 120 years ago,

The times I went by this place on the corner of Carlton Hill and Porchester Road , initially when a lad on the 25 bus to and from Mapperley and then when I lived in Thorneywood and drove to West Bridgford each day .

Was speaking to my brother recently , who was a school pal at Henry Mellish of organist Dave Rowberry , (who later replaced Alan Price in The Animals group) and he told me Dave Rowberry's dad worked in that old corrugated roofed , former chapel that was Henry Groves Organ Works .

Many years ago, I'm sure i read that the Thorneywood Station, was a distribution point for injured WW1 soldiers, still looking for clarification.

Can anyone remember a Jim Hatton who had a garden centre on Cavendish rd. in the 50s and 60s he was my dads uncle.

Do you have a number? while not a Garden Centre, i recall i family (Council House) just to left of the cut-through, Nursery Drive? that grew fresh veg, and displayed on the the street for the community, this was early eighties,

  4. Fond memories David, would you have been wearing a pair of those trousers from Vic Market, high waistband, lot's of button's, with terrible stitching?

They were great for picking up static,

Had big side thigh pockets, really good for marble's and football card's.

Edit..When playing marble's at school, I recall i started at roughly 4 with a hole in the concrete, than you moved onto the grates, were they Choc's

In Nottingham, 2 Abeauts bottom grate, 4 Abeauts top grate.

A Rare 5abeaut was always matched only by a shiny ball bearing!

Love to know if my memory, terminology is correct, I'm talking early 1970's..

    Rog

And that chap who was portrayed as a malingerer, Hitch or Hook?

In the real world a lay preacher.

If I remember it was an English regiment, not Welsh at this time.

It's a great film, all the same.

Has Forrest Gump been on this year?

    I have it on BLU-RAY..

  6. I thought my cut off point was '83..which has to be wrong..

There was that brindle dog, name of Bob & the Trap six black celeb', tailed off but always won.. Think this was 84-86?

it was celeb' night, sure a bookie (unfamiliar) took one bet of an even thousand.. instantly thought fake!

Two races later, a thousand on the Tote, instantly

1-99, the dog did win at 2/7.. it had to be real...

    Commercial BS had arrived..

On a positive note, recall a bookie called Peter Derrick, Top man, and the only one I'd trust without a ticket,

with dwarfism wore padded velcro suits and were thrown at walls

Yeah, those smiling faces in their late sixties pseudo crash helmets, I always observed that the Velcro was insufficient for their weight and nobody ever 'stuck', thankfully had a nice soft smiling landing, however.

The Gut Barging competion that was sometimes

on the same bill was fun,

Couple of videos on utube, one briefly quotes Nottingham.

  8. The real palais..not the renamed odean,

Not sure, I think just to the right of pic', there's a pub, shared a beer with SRV's roadcrew in '85 pre, his gig.

There's a film with a young Petula Clark at this venue, although given a different name, the lovely interior art deco door's and windows are a dead giveaway.

Amazing the crap you 'remember', I recall the upholstery being identical to to that in the Astoria in Nottingham...?? This was 1985..
