  1. [Moved from another topic] Yes indeed Al There were some Famous people who appeared on the Stage at those clubs. "The Union" which was more progressive had groups like Cream. "The Boat Club' Which was more Rock, I saw a Afro Rock Group called DANTA "The Brit" was more soul Mod stuff. I saw Ben E King sing Stand by me here. There was also a club in the basement of the Bridgeford Hotel, (now the Rushcliffe Borough Council Civic Centre). I can't remember the name, but it was where Zak + Kirt started. They later moved on the Babel Club on Huntingdon Street. The boat clubs folded as more
  2. Help please! I hope I am not imagining this. I was born in 1951, I lived on Independent Street and went to Douglas Road school. I remember walking home and cutting through what must have been Radford mill. I walked up Garden Street then went left into a factory area. I walked through and came out on Norton Street. Now here’s where I am struggling, I vividly remember seeing small boats floating in a small pool on the right hand side as I walked through. Was there some sort of boat repairer there? My brother who is 3 years older than me thinks I am making it up, I can’t find anything about it so

Led Zeppelin had the original line up and at this time were playing mega statdiums. However they decided to return to the clubs that they played in the very early days and the Boat Club was one of them. I still remember the night was PACKED with about 300 people because the

  5. Just thinking of the days when I used to play wag from school and go down to the boatyard. There used to be a ferry service from there across the Trent especially for the yacht club members. I loved doing that little job. I remember one day, whilst showing off a little, I jumped off the boat to tie it up....missed my footing and went straight in the water. It was about a mile walk home, dripping wet through.. There was also a café there where some weeknights, someone would bring along their Dansette record player, others would bring their records and a good night was had by everyone. I remembe
