DAVIDW 1,690
Found more info under the Corn Exchange name . The "new" Corn Exchange was built in 1850 at a cost of £3000 and was the largest public hall at that time. Throughout the 1900s it seems to be have been used for various events ranging from dog shows to boxing matches and auctions . In the early 40s it was purchased for £6000 by the Russell group as a youth meeting centre . In 1950 it was purchased by a Trades Union group for £11,900 as a centralised office for the trades unions .
