rob237 89
Does anyone recall the 'Coffee Pot' cafe, half way down Bath Street? Owned by Tony Malloy and managed by Ken & Dolly. Best lunches in Western Europe..... Pregnant women by the dozen, seeking their prawn salad cobs Was a regular patron late 60's/early 70's...perhaps before your time Ken's catchphrase: "Mind your fingers, the f...... plate's red hot!" Tutanic 8
Would that be somewhere near the shop CCC that used to sell school uniform rather cheap? If so, it later became the Rumbling Tum and the food was not quite so good. A
rob237 89
The Coffee Pot was located actually on Bath Street, just below the former Station Road (traffic lights?) junction. I worked on Bath Street, just above the Station Road junction, at the time and the 'CP' was a most popular establishment....certainly packed out for lunches! IIRC, owner Tony Malloy passed on from numerous booze related problems....this may have ensured its closure. Great shame....it really was a wonderful place. Not unlike 'Cheers'......full of great characters. Cheers (no pun) Robt P.
rob237 89
Reckon Pounders and Rose's Shoes are long gone national retailers.....am I right? IIRC, Rowe's the bakers were a Derby based local chain.....are they still in being? Can't recall the name of that little street by Rose's corner. Must have walked past at least 3,263 times.... rob237 89
Thanks for that Dennis... At first glance the only 'as you were's' seem to be the central chimney pots and the road nameplate. Reckon Betjeman would have done his nut...... Much prefer the ascending white van to the illegally parked? 4x4 Trust you got his piccy! Cheers Robt P.
mick2me 3,033
In those days everyone seemed to have a Bedford Dormobile. Now they have been relegated to parts such as Cotmanhay!
rob237 89
My abiding memory of the Dormobile is that, on a hot day with the doors open, the merest touch on the brake pedal - or even just a deceleration - would see both doors slide shut. Much more preferable to today's auto air conditioning rubbish Cheers Robt P.
