Sadly yesterday "Deadly" Derek Leslie Underwood passed away aged 78.

He earned the nickname "deadly" due to his ability to skittle other teams' batsmen on rain affected wickets.

He took 297 wickets in his career with England. It would have been many more but he joined World Series Cricket in 1977 and the rebel tour of South Africa in 1981/82 for which he was banned from international cricket for three years. Thanks for the memories Derek, you were one of the finest proponents of slow left arm spin bowlers England ever produced. Deepest condolences to family and friends.
