Bernard Manning has died, aged 76....

Saw him many times at the Commodore, and other places...

Best 'stand up' comedian of all time.....bar none :yahoo:

Kidney failiure (or some outraged 'Paki' nurse) no one is sure LOL (Sorry to all the P.C. brigade but it was used for comic effect)

Saw him a couple of times, Funny in the 70's, in the days of none pc.

But there were better comedians, Frankie Howard, and Eric Sykes, to name a few.

Yes, a very good comedian, honest and direct, but

he was banned on the odd occasion rather than change his act.

In real life, was said to be very warm and caring.

Born in Ancoats, Manchester, of poor Irish parents,

but also had Jewish ancestry. Said not to be a racist in reality,

just insisted upon not bowing to PC correctness because it

interfered with his kind of comedy act they way he had always

performed it - or words to that effect! LOL

2 years National Service, where he discovered his gift

for entertaining the troops.

Despite his millions, true to his roots, he died in Manchester, not

2 miles from his famous Embassy Club on Rochdale Road.

A man of the people with a working class humour to the end.

Also. still performing 2 shows nightly in May though very weak.

Bernard died as he lived, with courage and conviction. !clapping!

I saw him at The Manor in West bridgeford circa 1993 very funny but my mate who's black by the way was paid to be there and be insulted all night

And another good link. I have always liked Eric Sykes,

especially when he appeared with Hattie Jakes - some hilarious sketches.

But Bernard was one of the best stand up comedians ever, and was

content to be loved or loathed for his later politically incorrect comedy,

which was once acceptable.

He even sent up obese people whilst admitting that HE weighed 21 stone.

Women were not spared either.

He saw humour in everything and was true to himself until the end.

Many would have fallen by the wayside for that but his club was packed

every night by a multitude of fans'.
