Has anyone read any of John Harvey's books? He has written a lot of books, but one series in particular is about a Nottingham detective called Charlie Resnick. The stories are set in the city centre I do believe. I have only just found this author and will look for his books when I next come over.

Thanks for the prompt Kath...someone mentioned him to me some while ago, but I'd forgotten...

My informant had really enjoyed one his earlier books.

Freely available online, it would seem:

His website:

I've now ordered Now's the Time, his book of short stories, to gain a flavour of his writing.

Cheers

  • 3 weeks later...

Kath,

I've now read the Resnick short stories...

Rather enjoyed the book - perhaps somewhat repetitive, especially with Jazz as a prominent feature, clearly Harvey's passion - nevertheless a good read.

Constant references, with strong descriptions, to areas of the City with which we are all familiar, a la Sillitoe and Stanley Middleton.

Do mail me your address off group, and I'll dispatch the book to Arizona...with my compliments.

Cheers

Robt P.
