Beefsteak 305
((do we have any computer experts on these pages - with the time to help others ?)) What do you need to know Bazzer?
BAZZER 10
I thought I had a problem with MS-Word,,,, but I now I realise that I have a bigger problem. I thought it was word cos it shows up more in word – but that’s cos I use word s lot. When typing, the system changes formatting in mid stream ! (it’s just changed justification from ‘left’ to ‘centre’ for no apparent reason) Sometimes it will go into bold mode,,, or italic mode etc,,,, then back to normal,,,, then sometimes, I lose everything I have written as the curser goes to the top of the page,,,, wiping out what I have written. I tend to use my digit & little finger a lot (ctrl + C,,, or V,,, or S,,, or P etc etc). I noticed that the C or V or S etc wasn’t being affected by the ctrl button and it would print the C, V or S as if I was just typing. When in I. Explorer the Text size (in View) just changes,,,,,, I thought that the keyboard might be playing up & tried another. I got the same problem. I recently had to replace the rodent, which seemed to be o.k on another machine. I thought that the PS/2 interface was playing up. As the k.board is also PS/2 seemed to confirm this. Today I bought a USB item – but the problem persists. Whilst writing this bit, the formatting has changed about 10 times. I also did a restore today as well. It’s getting on my bloody nerves,,,, but I ain’t got a clue,,,, Acer T120 - XP Pro + SP3 - 2gb – I.E6

BAZZER 10
Sounds like you have a trojan in there download ....Spybot run it a few times Don't stop after one run (And keep your lad off the porn) No disrespect but thats the easiest entry for them!! Cheers BS: luckily (?!) my son lives with his mum,,,,,, & i'm not greatly into porn any more,,,, wouldn't know what to do with it now !!!!! I have a couple of programs running: S.A.Spyware, Zone Alarm, AVG etc, but if you recommend Spybot - i'll give it a bash. Tried to do another restore tonite, but it wouldn't take it. thanks again - i'll get onto it tomorrow morning. BAZ
zab 47
You could also try running Housecall - it's on of the best on-line anti-virus scanners around, can take a little while to run, http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/
BAZZER 10
Ran a full AVG scan this a.m. (3.5 hours) As well as a few Tracking cookies, It came up with 2 Startpage.cza T.Horse. Have deleted them,,,,,, are any of you aware of this one ? Is it likely to be the cause of my probs ? I used AVG first as I already have it. Shouldn't it have picked up the T.H when it came in ? If it dosn't work, will try the progs as suggested. Baz
Beefsteak 305
AVG is not as good as it is painted . Mick gave us a link to this and it works fine (All the time ) you do need to run a thourough scan occasionally though http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
BAZZER 10
Hi, Been scanning all day. The first scan with Housecall showed TROJ_DNSCHANG so I deleted that, turned off Restore and scanned again. It's just finished but only came up with a couple of minor cookies. Will see what it's like tomorrow,,,,, if no better will have a bash with spybot. Thanks for everything so far (just seen the other Carlton piccy's also - thanks again) I do scan regularly as well as defrag etc,,,, and as I say, I have Zone Alarm, S.A.Spyware as well as AVG running. Over the many years I have been lucky enough to pick up only about 2 viruses. cheers
BAZZER 10
am still getting problems - so am about to download SpyBot,,,, fingers ('n things) crossed ! Just checked temps: M.B: 37 (99) CPU: 47 (117) GPU: 47 (117) HDD: 30 (86) as far as I know - not too hot.
Beefsteak 305
Make sure all other anti virus and anti spam soft ware is totally disconnected first.
BAZZER 10
Oh well,,,,,,, I’m still having the same problems,,, I have since tried: Spybot,,,,, NOD32 (the only 100% virus catcher),,,, & C.Cleaner. None of them came up with a Virus/Trojan or anything other than a few cookies, which I have deleted anyway. Am now officially flummoxed. Looks like a visit to the puter doctor ! Thanks anyway -- Baz
zab 47
Checking the Trend site, it seems you have to remove it in safe mode otherwise it keeps re-activating. There are lots of variants of Startpage - http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyc...p;alt=startpage Clicking on each link provides you with the solution, I'm assuming you didn't try housecall. Another tool that might help is Stinger which is basically a quick program you can run to zap the most common problems. http://vil.nai.com/VIL/stinger/
BAZZER 10
Hi Zab,,,,,, (seems a familier name ?!?!) Yep (see Sep 4th reply) I did use Housecall. It came up with TROJ_DNSCHAN (deleted). Will have another look on Trend tho'. thanks
BAZZER 10
cheers folks for trying on this,,,,,, now fixed (I think,,,,,) it seems that a Macro was playing up ! I put about 6 AV progs through it,,,, only found a couple of none deadly Trojans (deleted),,,,,, Installed Linux to try,,,, this was o.k. This narrowed the prob to Windows,,,, so was about to reload this when a mate came up with the Macro. He sorted it,,,,, but whenever I load MS-Word, 5/6 macro choices pop up that I have to click "disable" before it loads ! At least I can now get back to things,,, thanks again Baz
Frank 13
now fixed (I think,,,,,) but whenever I load MS-Word, 5/6 macro choices pop up that I have to click "disable" before it loads ! Hi Baz Open MS Word then click ALT + F8. This will bring up a Macro box where you can highlight any Macro's you do not want and then click the 'Delete' button. This should stop the problem. BAZZER 10
Thanks Frank, Do I make a note of the ones that pop-up when starting Word & delete just them ? Don't they do anything else ? Baz
Frank 13
Baz A Macro is just a recording of a simple or complex set of keystrokes that save you time. You can delete them all if you want. It sounds like you have inadvertantly set up some Macro's without knowing it.
BAZZER 10
Thanks Frank, Now that I recall, the same time as the trouble started I received an e-mail from someone with an attachment. The attachment was a Word file. When I went to open it I saw the “Able/Disable Macro” for the first time. I clicked “Enable” to allow me to open the attachment. Could that file be corrupt ? If so, could it have caused my problem ? I was reminded of this when I clicked alt+F8,,,, as that particular file is one of 4 there. All the ones that pop-up on opening Word contains *****SMARTT\F?????.DLL. They don’t show up in alt+F8. The DLL bit concerns me, so, so far I havn’t deleted anything. Beefsteak 305
I have a little problem in my computer, when SWMBO logs me out and goes into her settings , or the computer is turned off for automatic updates etc I log back in to my settings and I can never get into Nottstalgia without first running Spybot. This is the only site I have this problem with . (The problem is a silly little trojan that I wipe off but is disguised as a H key, . It's called Zlob DNS changer, . )Doesn't matter what I do, it reapears ,almost straight away. As I say this is the only site I can't get back into. I have tried logging off before leaving to no avail. I have made sure I have still been logged on to other sites, but I can still get back into them.. Help!!
Frank 13
Baz, Beefy Download this program and try it free for 30days. From what I understand, it is quite good at deleting the Tojans including the .dll ones. http://www.spamfighter.com/Spywarefighter/Default.asp Ian Have a read of this, it mentions the trojan returning if you don't erase it properly - seems like what you have mate http://www.pcontech.com/spyware/remove/tro...zlob-remove.htm
Beefsteak 305
Cheers Frank I'll give it a go As I say it's not really a problem I just have to mess around for about 20 mins whilst spybot is doing the job
Beefsteak 305
You may have noticed I have been a bit conspicuous by my absence for the last hour but I have been trying remidies for my little problem, that second link seems correct Frank but does not clear it , never mind , Thanks for trying , got another for you if you want. MartynE 2
Could you please help? How do you cancel a windows remembered password, or alter it? I mistakenly clicked for my password to be remembered, but had missed one letter out of my user name. I don't know how to get into windows passwords. Can I ammend that remembered user name? Thank you.
Beefsteak 305
This should work (Although you will loose other remembered pass words. Depending on your computer set up, look for the tools button on the top of the screen. left click to open it , at the bottom is "Internet options" left click this, and a separate pane opens , look for the delete button , left click this , and some options appear , delete forms is the one you want , left click on there and you should be AOK.
