firbeck 860
Just a taster here, I didn't get back until late, despite it being just up the road, I have a lot of editing to do especially with the ariel shots, my little digi finding it hard to cope. The weather was initially appalling, low cloud and drizzle, it was so bad in fact that we nearly turned back. However, the first wave took off into the murk at 1:45 consisting of a mass take off of 7 Spitfires, 3 P-51's (The Horsemen) a Bf-109 and a FW-190, what a sight. As if on qeue the weather turned, it was perfect, lots of cloud formations, blue sky and very warm, spot on. The show was breathtaking, despite the problems, this is what happened. All the TFC's 15 fighters were grounded and stuck in their hangar, The Boss, Stephen Grey, came to the mike in the control tower at 1:30 and made this very angry and emotional speech. As he put it, despite it being the middle of the air display season and possibly the worlds greatest vintage airshow about to take place, the t@ssers from the CAA decided to do an investigation on his immaculately restored and flown WW2 aircraft and wanted to examine all their paperwork going back to 1944. Did they hurry up, no, what was the point of it, he had no idea, why now, they had no answer for that, as he put it, all they were likely to find wrong with any of his aircraft was finding a dead mouse, boy, was he p@ssed off. What is wrong with these civil service tossers, they won't allow for instance, the British based FW-190 to fly, but the French one can, and fly he bloody well did, is there a problem with this airframe, well it certainly didn't look like it yesterday. Rant over, a few pics from a brilliant day, see you next year Ian and Rog, it's unmissable. Finally, crap bit of vid, but 7 Spits doing a tail chase while a BF-109 and FW-190 hurtle past. A great day, blessed with good weather, and repeated in 3 hours, it could give some of you a chance to get down there.
