Ayupmeducks 1,730
My memory is dimming... I seem to recall a Parsons film on the development and building of the turbines and alternators many years back. I seem to recall they built and installed six 660Mw units...Is that correct??? Limey 242
Ratcliffe has four 500MW units which were later augmented by four Rolls Royce Avon gas turbine units which I think were 100MW each. I think these were later replaced or updated. Turbines were, indeed, Parsons, generators were GE (I think) and the boilers were B&W. All original pipe signage and original office decorating was by my dad! Soot blower malfuntion in the summer of 1969 was diagnosed as a faulty control panel relay by myself assisted by a staff electrical engineer! We also re-wired a burned out control/telephone cable running from the control room to the cooling towers (which was a lot of fun!). Engineer was amazed that a 16 year-old could read the wiring diagrams!
