Out of respect to a great sportsman I have used his preferred name. I was asked to post this recently. I have read that Ali was much bigger in the flesh that you thought he would be but being along side Tug hardly helps this theory does it. I remember he went to work at Lloyds bank at the bottom of St James Street after he retired form the Police.

I bet they never got robbed whilst he was there!

There is also a thread here somewheres asking why there is no commemorative plaque for tug?

There has been a piece this week in the Nottingham Evening Post Bye Gone's section that mentioned tug. In 1958 a Mr Vickers, who happens to be my neighbour and a real gent, witnessed a man running out of a bank in the market square with someone shouting 'stop thief'. Mr V being a rather big rugby player grabbed said fellow and marched him back to the bank who had apparently seen someone waiting to pay in a wad of cash and grabbed it. Tug was the first Pc to arrived and nicked him. My Mr Vickers is rather miffed that he is now an official Bye Gone!

Hi letsavagoo, inform your neighbour Mr Vickers that he should feel privileged to be mentioned in the Nottingham Evening Post's 'Bygones' section.

I've written many times for 'Bygones' and this supplementary of the Evening Post's goes around the world - and is eagerly anticipated and most respected. Let's hope that the article in the Evening Post makes it into the supplementary.
