That would be what was known as the 'Rookery' The dreadful slum area forming a square from Market street to Clumber street...and south from Parliament street to the Market square.The area of the Market square in front of Debenhams known as Long Row was a perpetual bog in winter months for many years with the effluent from this sloping area until it was excavated and filled with stone in the mid eighteen hundreds. 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
