  1. I am getting really worried now, I share another one of your views, namely spending money on space Invader games and the like. Also I too used to enjoy pinball machines till I tilted them and got into trouble. Its this site, it transmits strange waves and one picks things up from other uses, its not safe... A
  2. There is a happy medium when not so old becomes ancient. The seconds really bring it home to you, also while writing this post and reading the rest I have aged many more seconds than years. Frightening... A
  3. Certainly was, Mrs Skill used to gut all the wet fishfor the shop. They also used to have one on Ilkeston Road, nobody did fish like Skillys. The best meat pies in Radford were the ones Mrs Smith used to make. That was another fish and chip shop at the bottom of Denman Street. She had a son called Fred, and used to refer to him as 'arr Fred', they were some relation along the line to Briggs chip shop in Ilkeston on Nottingham Road. I will consult the oeacle for more information. A
  4. That was interesting and I could relate to all that he wrote. Unusual when you think haw many people were born on the same day. Good one, Mick. A bighug
  5. While on the subject of old radford, does anyone know how Skills started, was it when they used to take the miners to either Radford or Wollaton pits in what was known as a horse box? This was an open flat backed trailor. Just a thought... A !! NB This has been split from another topic at Sirs request.
  6. We used to go in there when I first met my other half, many moons ago, almost forty years! A !cheers!
  7. Is the Pheasant the same pub as the Dog and Pheasant on Bloomsgrove Street? Manchester Cottages were between Thackery Street and Prospect Street and they backed on to Thackerys Yard. The cottages on Bloomsgrove Street stood back from the road with gardens at the front, they were opposite the Dog and Pheasant, I think. When you wanted mint for new potatoes the people living there would sell you a bunch for a halfpenny, A
  8. I think that is something different, but still good to have. I think the more belts and braces you have, the better. Glad you have backed everything up and you won't lose too much if you crash. Best of luck. A
  9. Doesn't matter which windows system you are running, 'win' will start it. .I think it should be 'fell swoop' but I could never understand why. If himself was still here he would let me know in no uncertain terms. Good advice just the same. Best of luck BIP, something tells me you are going to need it. Good housekeeping is essential on pc's as well as at home. (Hark at 'er.) A
  10. Found this for you BIP, it may help you at some point: To create an MS-DOS startup disk The MS-DOS startup disk you create will allow you to boot into MS-DOS. Insert a floppy disk into your computer's floppy drive. Open My Computer, and then click the floppy disk drive to select it. On the File menu, point to the name of the floppy drive, and then click Format. Under Format options, click Create an MS-DOS startup disk. Click Start. Important Creating an MS-DOS startup disk erases all information on the floppy disk. Notes To open My Computer, click Start, and then click My Co
  11. Back up your system 'cause if it fails and you cannot reboot you will lose everything. Also make a reboot disc, it should tell you how to do this in the help files you run. Failing that get down on your knees and say a little prayer. A
  12. Just a thought, does anyone know where Manchester Cottages was in Radford? A !hand!
  13. Did you ever frequent the Plough on St. Peters Street? That was my mother and father-in-laws' local. They lived on Hamilton Terrace, just off Ilkeston Road. Do you remember anyone called Henry Cooper, not the boxer, he used to have a garage down that end in around 1968/69? A
  14. Why the bold and large lettering? Do you have a latent tendancy to want to be heard? Oh, I forgot, its only women that do that... A !hand!
  15. 'Thank you very much. I will try that in a little while. A !cheers!
  16. We used to do that with my youngest son. Keep anything hidden from him and under the soap was always best. Now everything he does in my house when he comes to see us, starts in the fridge. He always says there are much more exciting things in my frisge than in his. I think I would prefer Segness to Australia, no snakes and no funnel webs... A How do I get these other emoticons on to my pc so I can send them to my grand kids?
  17. My sister has just left my house and gone back to Skegness on the train, she lives on Roman Bank . I would dearly love to move there some time before I throw off this mortal coil. I love the East Coast and especially Skegness and the surrounding area. I have wanted to move for years but events in the family have always held us up. One day, just you wait... A
  18. Getting fined for doing things wrong on the highway is not a new thing, is it? Take this for instance: 'Fined £35.00 in 1974 for speeding through the Buckinghamshire toen of Lechlade, travelling salesman Barry Winner paid up without an argument, but had to explain: "I forgot myself. But in the far end of the town they were screaming out for toilet rolls." Not even a mercy dash could get him off... A :danceN: NB Added that 'cause I like it...
  19. There is always Anderby Creek and the car promenade. These oldies can all creek together ar Anderby Creek. By the way, don't go in the restaraunt in the car park, we did and we wondered why we were treated with such reverence when we ordered a meal for two adults and two children. Thought how nice and polite the service was but couldn't understand why the clientel were all eating bowls of soup. I thought it was a denture problem they had, then we got the bill... A crazy crazy
  20. The thing was, did you get good reception when you worked it out? I would have thought Leeks would hve been better, especially straight from the garden before you have chopped the tops off.
