  1. I can remember going to the Royal Banquet Hall on a Christmas do in 1990. They were well known for singing the one called I am the Music Man. I think there full name was Carl and the Idleburgers, I am sure they came from Cotmanhay. A
  2. This turned up while I was having a rummage for clues. I wonder if it is the same company? The site is: Aviva world Its fascinating looking for clues... A
  3. Having a husband who is turned 70 makes this topic so easy to add too. The Ford Cortina was a great car, we owned a 1600E with a Lotus engine. This was not good enough for the other half so he decided to refine the cylinder head. It appears that when things are mass produced they tend to be slightly 'off' centre and therefore narrow the ports down and stop the gas flow. I am not technically minded so I believed all that I was fed. We had all meals on our lap for a week while he ground out the ports so they matched. The car ran so much better then before, or so I am told by the person who
  4. Did they have a drug problem at The Early Bird? It could have been vandals. A couple of my relations used to go in there when it was a decent pub. They would come to see us on Saturday night and then go for a drink on the way home. He had nothing but praise for the place when it was run by a particular landlord and land lady. A
  5. Remember the sayings very well, add to it 'Cheap at half the price', and you have the total sum of conversation for a good part of Nottingham. The word 'frazzle' conjurs up cheese on a plate cooked in the oven at the side of the fire, also the bacon edges and the black smoke emitting from the pan when it was being cooked. I like the edges of a fried egg when they have been 'frizzled'. they have a taste that can never be copied. Do you remember when chicken was a luxury? we had a beef joint for Sunday lunch and my dad always got the first slice off the joint, it was always a bone of content
  6. 'How many Whoppas will I get out of this, then?' ' Will the shoes be leathery, I wonder?' 'Kong that then?' A
  7. They are either sausages done to death or Parsnips that have gone the same way. My vote is sausage... A hungry
  8. How about 'absolutely' this is my pet dislike. In a former life I was trained in the art of Quality Circles, a Japanese way of cheap ideas to save money. If the word absolutely is used then I can almost guarantee the utterer has been trained in the same thing. Drives me round the twist, definitely, ya know? A
  9. Hi Den, I had a writing tablet so I can sign my name to anything and print it out. It is good and when I am used to it I will be able to draw. It is fantastic what these things can do, I cannot wait for the drawing to take effect 'cause I could never draw before... I now havw two wireless rodents and a pen with no nib, how confusing is that? My keyboard is wireless as well but that doesn't use so many batteries as the mouse. I keep two on charge all the time to be able to continue using the thing. I like them as there are noe wires to get entangled in. What with cameras, mice and keyboa
  10. I have been speaking to my sister about the names you have mentioned and as I thought the name Yvonne Unwin rang a bell. Yvonne was my sisters' bridesmaid when she got married. Yvonne went to live in Australia with her mum and dad but she still comes over to see her sister, Wendy. Last year she stayed with my sister in Skegness for a while before she went back. It is a small world... My sister is two years older than you and I am one year younger. I do not recall many boys names from that time as we were looked on as kids and not worth the effort of getting to know. Nice to know I hav
  11. Did Delia Bostock have an older sister called Valerie? or where you not that close? I have an older sister called June who is in touch with some of the girls from school. June was born in 1941 so she is three years older than I am, judjing by your recent posting then I assume you to be one year my senior, I could be wrong as in the days of the 11 plus, if you didn't pass the first time then you were allowed a second stab at the 14 plus. What are your views on this, good or bad? Do you think mixed schools actually worked at that time or did they set todays trend of kids being kids? A
  12. I left Crane in 1955 to go to Peveril Bi-Lateral. You must be raound about the same age as I am. With Crane being a school where the sexes did not mix officially, the culture shock of going to a mixed school was tremendous. Amesbury Circus is a place to avoid, the time elapsed has not been kind to the whole area. Do you recall an female names from your schooldays? Ann
  13. Oh no your not!!! I am stuffing my face with chocolate brazils, something I should not eat as I am allergic to them, but I don't care tonight, I will suffer the consequences tommorrow. Merry Christmas to you all. A
  14. You have all got it wrong, what I meant was, with Scoots having his busy time and all, did we have to wait for him to tell us that Angi was right!! Not that Mick had posted the conundrum. He is away and that was about as daring as I could get. Whoooooo's a coward then?? A
  15. In reply to Ayup, my Dad worked at Cinderhill and then Babbington pit. He was 49 when he died in 1961. My husband waorked down Babbington for a year before he went in the Army. They thought he had got it all wrong because it was usually work down the pit as opposed to going in the army, he was always back to front. The more I look at my childhood, the more I realise that what I had was better than most, no running up and down a yard to the loo, no tin bath and a holiday every year. As I have said before, why is youth wasted on the young? A
  16. Do we need Scoots to tell us that Angi has it right? Seing as how Mick aint here I say blow it and lets go with another one. All those in favour.... A
  17. My Dad was a miner so we had a coal allocation, we had a Yorkist fireplace with a back boiler. All very fine till my dad lit the fire with parraffin and the fireplace left the wall by about 2 inches. Another time the hot water tank imploded with the heat. We had that much coal we used to keep the street going in winter. It was a great time and I wouldn't change anything. My dad died when I was 16 through working down the pit but I don't think he would have changed anything either. I loved Christmas and still do. A bighug
  18. i must be very fortunate because I have never known an outside loo. I was born on Aspley Lane and it had all the mod cons of a new house, inside loo and running hot and cold water. My mother user to live in Radford where they had a stand pipe in the middle of the yard and a block of toilets at one end of the yard. I wonder what it could have been like for the families at that time. When you think about it the kids were healthier and they made their own amusement even if it was a poverty stricken time. Aaaah, the good old days... A
  19. If it is Clint Walker then he looks awful. He used to wear a white stetson in Cheyenne and a grey outfit, that is how it looked on a black and white telly. Didn't Ty Hardin take over when he had a row with the bosses over pay? Then when he sorted it out he went back. !raise! A
  20. I would have thought you would have been bothered about that picture, Caz. I thought you were a vegetarian, that amounts to all meat and no veg!! Hope its not Mick, it has put me right off. A
  21. If it is who I think it is, time has not been that kind to him. He used to wear a white Stetson hat. Did you see the Indians? A
  22. Am I seeing things, but does this image wink at one? Ican remember him in a cowboy hat but I was never any good at westerns. A
  23. That is a sobering thought, I will never touch another mince pie after Xmas again. YUK!!!! A
  24. Thanks for that Bamber, I will try it on this image. Now, what keywoeds can I use... A NB I'm not telling you lot 'cause if I find it on the words I use then you will as well!!!
