  1. That's a steal I'd say mate. I bought a 1G stick from the techies at Uni for £10 and considered that a great deal compared to what I've seen elsewhere. Do be careful though. It is possible for them to go wrong and lose stuff completely. Maybe best to back up the pics somewhere. I lost a load of University work once forever. The techies gave me advice about saving documents to your pc first then transferring them over to the stick - rather than saving directly to the stick. Also always shut down the program in the proper way before taking the stick out of your machine. Having said that though
  2. Passed there mysefl on Friday, mate. Seems to just be a bit of a shell now. I've seen some pics from inside recently - maybe on here? I do think it's a shame. When you see the good work they've done at the likes of Broadway Cinema it's easy to see what's possible. Not all of us like going to these North American style multiplexes. I miss the old Odeon. Incidentally whilst visiting the Bell Inn with a girlfriend, I was lured into heading up Hurts Yard to that Kukarama's (sp) place AGAIN. How does a pub with no beer taps work then? Can you or anyone explain that one to me? Never again...
  3. Found this shot whilst surfing images. Some good stuff on at the pictures that day. What took me aback was how dated the cars looked for 1971. I recognise the motors but am not sure, is the one on the left a M11 Ford Cortina? What about the one on the right - A Vauxhall Corsair?
  4. I've been pining for a thread like this, personally.
  5. We've made a balsa up of this thread eh?
  6. Fir goodness sake - you two trying to spruce up this thread or something?
  7. Oakay bud. Ash long as you promise to do the same.
  8. Right ya are mate. I'm burstin' on a pint!
  9. Erdinger is grand stuff I reckon. Those glasses LOOK like at least two pints too! Not many places to get it apart from Hard to Find though. Didn't The Poacher used to have it?
  10. The mind boggles at your idea! The beer stand is at the bottom right of the webcam here, next to the Christmas tree: Nottingham on Ice! Whilst I was there a couple came up to buy pints. When the barman asked for six quid for each drink (it's £3 deposit for each vessel) the woman almost dropped the pint! She couldn't seem to get her head around the fact that she'd have £3 returned to her and so instead slid the pints right back! I love people watching. :-) PS all this talk is making me thirsty.
  11. Did you twig which branch it had been sent from, mate?
  12. Okay...I have to ask, what did you do at the water feature last Saturday night? Can you get arrested for it? The rink sure has its compensations though - namely that German beer stand next to the rink! I'm not sure how it would go down with the HP swilling lads on here but that Paulaneer stuff they were selling was outstanding. The wheat beer was good too. Three quid a pint but it fair set my ships sailing! !jumping!
  13. I'm a little bit disappointed with the spectating arrangement at the outdoor rink. I'm assuming that the constructions at the side of the ice are for skaters only? With the rink having to be elevated too. there seems little opportunity for the public to engage in what is going on out on the ice. Nor is there much to see when one is skating. I intended to take my skates down and have a quick whip round but what is putting me off is having to book beforehand for a certain session? If I could just turn up and jump on there I would. Sorry to nitpick as I do think it's a good idea and one that is
  14. I mentioned the cost of the rink to a friend in Canada. His response was 'Christ on a bike with nine nuns - are they building the Montreal Forum or Maple Leaf Gardens in Market Square?'
  15. Crikey! Seems like I've only been here five minutes then it went away. I missed it. Well done Mick, thanks for your hard work in getting things back together so that we can chat on here. It's appreciated.
  16. St. Andrews is a lovely place in it's own right. Everytime I've been there it's been lashing with rain though! Dean Village is a little gem and the Water of Leith walkway is something that deserves more attention I always think. Stockbridge I like. It's smart with nice housing bars and businesses. Not far from the city centre either. I'm inclined towards the east of the city and beyond, coming from Musselburgh originally. Leith and Portobello are my kind of places. Did you happen to visit this place at all, Katy? Mary King's Close After many years meaning to go down there I finally got aro
  17. Red's link [4th post] is the price list... £7, per 45 minutes, for adults...seems quite reasonable. Cheers Robt P. I think it's reasonable too. It's £9 in Edinburgh. A few words about outdoor skating then, for anyone interested. Nottingham on Ice!
  18. You're welcome, Katy. Edinburgh is my home town originally so any other questions in general just shout up eh. I'm going there this weekend actually and maybe Vittoria's will get a visit...along with many of the city pubs! The Abbotsford The Cafe Royal The Guildford Arms The Halfway House The Ensign Ewart Mathers Bar. See what you started!
  19. There's a great range of good restaurants in Leith these days. Some of the ones I've tried have been, Skipper's Bistro. Malmaison, Daniel's, The King's Wark, Martin Wishart's etc. You won't go too far wrong wherever you go down there. It does tend to be a little bit more expensive than some areas though. Here's a little tip for you if you enjoy Italian food: http://www.vittoriarestaurant.com/ Vittoria's is situated half way up Leith Walk towards Edinburgh on the left hand side. I have local friends that have been going there for years as I have and would always recommend it. Ideal for parties
  20. The Loch Fyne business is a chain. The missus and I went in there quite a few years back armed with a £50 gift voucher which seemed to not go very far if I recall. Everything was abolutely excellent but pricey. Remember a couple of moneyed young guys in there having a mixed seafood type plate which was enormous (and probably enormously expensive). If you should visit, I can recommend the traditional Scottish dessert of Cranachin which was pretty authentic when I visited. The one at the shore in Leith has quite some competition from the like of Skippers etc. Leith is 'home ground' to me and is
  21. Perhaps you haven't paid homage for a while... Owner for decades - Eric Dickinson - has sold up, at his retirement. Concensus being that the place is but a shadow of its former self. Apparently, even the mint sauce has changed for the worse !sickly! Sorry to be the imparter of such bad news... Cheers Robt P. I was on there yesterday Rob. I would agree that it's not been up to it's old standards for a while. I've been using it for so many years that I would miss it if it disappeared completely. That would be a great shame. Remember the days when you could get oysters on there?
  22. I suppose every city has these, places, customs or people that are unique to that place or associated very strongly in some way. Perhaps a good yardstick is to imagine how much you would miss it or do miss it if you're away from Nottingham. Here's one that came to mind with me yesterday. It's extremely difficult for me passing through the Victoria Centre or anywhere within it proximity to ignore the hot peas and seafood stand on the Victoria fish market. I just can't resist the place. Upon leaving here it would be something I always associated with my time living here. A part of 'old' Notting
