  1. When I worked for RR down in Derby in the early 80s, we built what was then the biggest database in the UK - and one of the biggest in the world - that was a two meg jobbie! Of an evening, me and my mate would get together and paly table tennis on his PET Commodore - you must remember those two vertical paddles and the square ball!
  2. OK guys - an underwhelming response! I do like his version of Light my fire - some good harmonica on that. Now, here's another thought - Was Gladys Knight Motown's most underrated star - or do you know of someone else? I should mention the track I love - just in case! Who is he (and what is he to you) plus which her frteedom train is a right little belter. I just know Craig is going to say - Barbara McNair! Yes, it's true - love a go go is a goer!
  3. More Keith tracks for Mick! Change is Comin' - gypsy Crystal Closet Queen - Leon Russell Red, Red Wine - Eric Clapton Look at Granny Run - Howard Tate!
  4. Hmm, Junior at 70! Needs thinking about! OK - here's a thought - Did Stevie ever make a really good record? (I have a feeling I've just earned a kicking). Favourite tracks again! 'Can't stop looking for my baby' -the Fantastic Four and 'Baby I miss you' - Tommy Good. Then there is Northern Soul meets Motown - always a good thing - with Martha belting out 'I'll follow you'. But, when Motown met funk the results weren't always so good! I spent about 6 months working Scamps in Hemel - where funk was the only game in town. At the time Creative Source had a single out, the full version of w
  5. Yes it would! I used to go to the dojo at the YMCA - till my boss at the Penny told me it was making me late for the club! I used to sit and watch Stu Morris (Mr Scary) spa with Bob. Trouble was Bob had heigt, speed and skill - so Stu never got the better of him. Mind you, just to keep it cool, neither did I! I started training again when Bob decided to open a class at the Musters in West Bridgford in the 80s. By this toime Bob was in trouble with the association because he thouight the non-contact thing was a little overrated. I think he'd been barred from contests at the time. Anyway
  6. Oday we have the most disinctive Motowner of all - Junior Walker, master of the wailing sax. And our track is Tune-up, made especially for playing while you tinker with your Vespa!
  7. Hey Mick - looks like Keith wasn't petal after all - or maybe you misremembered? What do you think?
  8. It was your pick that made me go and dig it out! By the by, do you have any idea what happened to DJ Petal? I seem to remember he worked on Radio Trent for a while.................Or maybe you remember Hippo Girl's Alex?
  9. The thing is neither of them - Keith or Pat - spoke much between tracks (at the Hippo anyway) and each record segued so seamlessly into the next one that quite oftewn you didn't realise that the track had changed. I guess it was disco, Mick, but not as we know it. They never played duff or fluffy tracks - just fantasic music of any genre. They played the Merry Clayton version of 'Gimme Shelter' and the Ike and Tina version of 'Honky Tonk Woman' which may (sorry Stones fans) be even better than the originals!
  10. Can't be that rare - mine also says 1964 - 1980. I bought it to have a CD version of 'I feel love coming on' and Mood Mosaic's 'Touch of velvet....' (easier to make CD compilations). Now that would be a good series for Kev to do - if your listening Craig - a best of President collection! I have a vinyl thing called the genius of Barry White, with the Felice Taylor track - but it's not the original. That said it does have 'It may be winter outside' and some Viola Wills tracks including 'you're out of my mind' which was brill! Now let's see, today's favourite motown track is - Barbara McNai
  11. I know he did a radio show - back in 74/5 and I think he was on Trent, so maybe Craig will know someone who knows? What about Alex - only me and hippo girl seem to remember him - anyone else recall him?
  12. Well, theres also Buddy Miles - Them Changes Fanny - Charity Ball Nazareth - Dear John Run Run Run - Jo Jo Gunne (these three were played one after the other and if you play them you'll see why - they segue brilliantly) Funk 49 was by the James Gang which was an early Jo Walsh band and very good too. Devil's Answer - Atomic Rooster and finally this afternoon - Big Jim Salter from Maggie Bell's Stone the Crows - truly awesome. Make a CD or two - I did and they're brill!
  13. Didn't Paul Atwal run a boutique? He certainly had a way with the girls! Talking of not-quite boutiques what became of the Cecil Gee shop? I used to be friendly with Roy and Rob who worked there.....
  14. Yes it was Le Chic but it later changed its name to something Germanic, I think. Yes - if I'd pulled really well and wanted to impress I would go to the Pagoda and order a bottle of Lutomer to go with the meal! Plus a glass of water for the girl!! !jumping!
  15. Now that I know that you all know Keith as Petal, the DJ from the Union - does anyone know where Petal (or Pat) might have got to?
  16. I don't suppose the Sandersons that had an off-license of Castle Bolevard and two daughters - Linda and Janice would be part of your family?
  17. If I could sell my record collection for what Record Collector's guide says it's worth, I could afford a weekend up in Nottingham!
  18. Talking of gay, there was a gay club, right next door to a chinese restaurant - which I think may have been the Pagoda - anyone remember the restaurant or the name of the club? And - which shows how bad my memory is now - where was it? Also, Chrissie - do you remember the Golden Curry down on Arkwright street and Starline taxis run by two Indian guys - one was called Koli, I think! Can't remember the name of the guy who ran the curry house but he was OK! And I remember Alex had a house off Gregory Boulevard - one off the roads that went off across from the Goos fair site - bur what road wa
  19. OK, well the woman is definitely Brenda! You would not believe how much they were thieving off that door! I think theyre were 200 tickets that they recycled and there used to be about four hundred people in the club! I feel very sorry for anyone who had a child by Brenda's son! Ask Suzanne if she knows what became of the others - PLEASE! When I first knew Andrea - and when Tony rented the flat over the Hippo to us - she was a lovely girl, but after she took up with moonlight she bacame very full of a sense of her own importance. She decided Mick had to go becasue his feet smelled and
  20. God yes! Zak and Kurt - I thought they were great guys and they ran a great club! It was smooth wasn't it! Four guys tried to pick a fight with Bob Lord outside one night and he aske if they could just wait while he took of his watch! About a minute later four guys were laid out on the street and Bob never even got the watch off!
  21. Hah! That was passionate Pat! Her flatmates were Jane (the boobs) Boyfield (she went out with Errol and later with Flash Pete the manager at the Penny) (It was his DJ that Andrea went of to Hemel with) (Jane and I were together for quite a while) and Jane the Gap. Pat or Jane was a window Dresser! Gosh, I wish you could track one of them down! I don't think I knew them in Christmas 71 - but I was at the party in Christmas 72! Pretty much the same deal really. I think it was flat 5 on Magdala! Big old house anyway! Who the hell was Fuzzy? The only doorlady I remeber was Brenda, but on
  22. Aha! So someone does know Keith! I remember that mobile home and a collection of 45s to die for! Now then - do you remember Pat as well? Little bit serious most of the time but OK if she liked you!
  23. The Sandpiper set! I never saw more than six people in there! Who were the two guys that ran Babels - that was a good place!
