  1. I started school in 1941 and St George's day was mentioned in class by the teachers every year. I would fly the flag if I had a flagpole to put it on; can't drape it out of bedroom window in my bungalow

  4. Following on from the topic The Last Pit" - does anyone know the whereabouts of Roy Lynk; is he still alive and in good health? I certainly hope so. The reason I'm asking is that, for as long as I can remember, I have drawn faces and, especially ones that have character and strength. In 1992, Roy Lynk staged a week long sit-in at Silverhill Colliery in protest at the government's pit closures programme and The Nottingham Evening Post was there when he emerged into the daylight.   5. I used to love Colwick Cheese too and I find that "Welsh Goats Cheese" which they sell in a well-known supermarket in Bridgford is reminiscent of it. It's great with a few chopped chives on a sandwich.
