  1. If I'm not mistaken it looks very much like Broxtowe lane, looking towards Nutthall road.. the bridge was service to Cinderhill Colliery and was probably razed in the seventies like everything else..
  2. The bogs.. one time citadel and headquarters of the Sawley freedom fighters... every friday night would see it jam packed with warriors, all eager to play their part for the cause. chants of 'fwee Thwarley' and 'Thwarley ruleth' (they all spoke with a lithp and wore cravats) could be heard till well into the night.. it was only when their leader a Crispin Bertwhistle got arrested for something totally unrelated to the cause, that the movement started to wane.. later attempts at a revival by Jeremy Farquaharson a veteran of the 'Free Beeston Ryeland' campaign proved to be unsuccessful, and thu
  3. The ultimate crap records of any decade has got to be anything by the Carpenters! as soon as the dirgeful tones of Karen Carpenter rend the air one would feel instantly depressed, thus it became of paramount importance the source of the caterwauling be found as soon as possible to save shooting oneself through the head!
  4. For far too long now the focus has been on Sawley as being the centre of England, nay, THE WORLD! well all that is about to change, as the outlying boroughs have had enough of the kid glove treatment and special handouts afforded to their elite neighbour, and have vowed to rebel. plans are afoot to usurp this prima donna, with the LongEaton Lurkers leading the fray, followed closely by the Chilwell chikers, who with dogged resolve intend to storm the village and take back what is rightfully theirs.. it is expected to be a protracted fray, and there may be many losses, with the Sawley sweet
  5. Just thought I'd mention the site below.. http://www.goldhunt.fsnet.co.uk/Grumpy/ he updates his list of 50s to 80s oldies virtually every week, and occasionally he comes up with a tune you completely forgot existed. .. take a look.
  6. Yes, Redmaynes once stood on the corner of Carrington street, and on the opposite corner was Enfield Standard Power cables, where I once worked shortly after leaving school.. part of my job each morning was to go outside and sweep traffic dust off the ledges, and I would often nip across to see what Redmaynes had in their window.. a cunning maneuver which offered brief respite from the hoardes of trolleybus commuters, all of whome would be intently staring at my endeavours whilst the bus was waiting at the lights...
  7. It's quite obvious someone has been tampering with the picture.. if you check out the original as shown below, you will see the significant changes that have been made!
  8. or.. He was a hollerin' 'bout how he was gonna gimme a triple whopper!.. ah bagged 'im straight between the eyes b'fore he could make a move!
  9. Give em a chance.. they're there! It's Bert and Brenda Higgins that's took to place over, they used to run The Happy Gunman at Toxteth, they just need a bit of time to acclimatise that's all.
  10. Found this whilst rummaging! what do you reckon the caption should read?
  11. I know exactly what it is! It's that secret ingredient he puts in his stuffing!
  12. What kind of Xmas party did you have? I wouldn't say ours was a great party, it was more adequate than anything else, nevertheless it was fairly typical, bordering on average!
  13. I get it! .. this is a similar thing to the 'yes no' interlude isn't it.. well I def.... OOPS! ... there you go, I nearly said it! well I def ... OOPS! ... I'm finding this very hard! well I don't know of any lady who has appeared on the tv, and I def.... OOPS! nearly! .. can't recall any that have been on the radio either, and if they had I would have thought 'definitely' would have definitely been used .. DRAT!
  14. I've had a wireless keyboard for around three or four years now, and wouldn't be without it, and I've only changed the batteries roughly twice in all that time.. now the wireless mouse I'm not too keen on, very heavy on batteries and they never seem quite as precise as their wired cousins.. so I stick with the wire, and when they give up the ghost after about six months or so, I merely fork out the £2.99 and off we go again.. Now the graphic pad is a different beastie, and takes a little getting used to, fine for graphic work but seems a tad awkward when used in place of the mouse.. SO, I g
  15. Absolute top ho devices! you'll now be able to play 'Santa's Downhill Challenge' whilst peeling the spuds in the kitchen!
  16. Yes, it could indeed be Carolyn.. I recall a program about her on the tv a couple of years ago recounting the history of the aircraft and herself.. it shown her in the process of flying the two seater whilst training a couple of young pilots.. they were in competition with each other as to who flew the Spitfire the best, the outcome of which, was a wide beaming smile from one, in direct contrast to a mere smile from the other. Let's hope the new year brings more sightings, especially of the trio Spitfire, Lancaster, and Hurricane.. on checking out the B.O.B memorial flight they have nothing
  17. there's often an unannounced Spitfire fly around over our place here in Ilkeston during the summertime, always a splendid sight to see.. and last year we had the Lancaster fly over on it's way to Stanley Common on a memorial mission.. it came by our house very low, and the pilot and turret gunner were visible.. by the time I'd gone indoors to get the camera it had gained height and was returning home. at least I got SOME shots.
  18. It certainly seems like there are a plethora of the beasties.. I wonder what kind of price they were asking for those? one would look very nice on my back garden! it also begs the question of why there is so much surplus? .. is it just obsolete equipment? .. or is it maybe the wobbly pen syndrome?
  19. Hi Rob.. The last time I ever saw the Vulcan was during the early seventies whilst on my way to the east coast, it was either taking off or landing at RAF Cranwell.. a very imposing sight! and whilst we mention aircraft... during the early sixties I was a member of 138 sq ATC and I recall our hq at Trent Lane being home at the time to a dismantled jet Vampire, the history of which, and how it got there I have no idea.. the hq has now been long gone and the Vampire probably sold for scrap, but a few years ago I recall Anchor Surplus at Ripley having a Vampire on display . I wonder, cou
  20. And a happy new year to one and all!
  21. I had a radio ripped out of my car whilst parked in the Meadows a couple of year back.. it annoyed me more than anything else.. a total waste of time reporting it to the police they have neither the resouces or the time to deal with stuff like this .. they'll tell you different, but fact of the matter is they're too busy trying to make ends meet. and the lesson is thus, be aware when venturing into the Meadows, and fit a radio with a flip off fascia.. not a guaranteed safeguard, but as yet it has been ok!
  22. Phew.. I don't know how you dare! ... next thing, you'll be accused of being bitter and twisted! .. I should leave well alone if I were you bip, while it's still safe!
  23. Your comment brings back recollections of my youth, when we, like you, were very poor.. firstly our house had no form of heating whatsover, the only comfort we got was when daddy ate a mustard sandwich.. he would call us over and we would sit on his knee whereby he would hang out his tongue and my brother and I would warm our hands on the glowing mass.. it may not seem much but it was all we had, and a thankful respite at the time. secondly, our house was that old, it had been built before toilets were invented, they never envisaged these things would ever be needed.. our only means of relie
