  1. Thanks for your concern Michael and Littlebro. I am in WA (ex Nottingham since 1967). 52 houses in Stoneville about 20kms from me were lost a little while ago in a massive bush-fire. But 3 years ago we had a similar fire in Roleystone, very close to me, and at my 70th birthday barbecue we had smuts and hot embers dropping on us. A friend of mine lost absolutely everything when her house went up in flames some years ago. It is something she will never forget. A lot of houses here are built of wood and are also surrounded by trees. Very good for shade in our hot Summers but not so good when a fi
  2. The topic about low-bridge buses on the 12A East Midland route, Nottingham to Chesterfield. These would have been made necessary by the low bridge carrying the Midland Main Line over the Mansfield Road at Horns Bridge just south of Chesterfield. There were three lines crossing at the same point, with the Great Central Railway at ground level, the Midland Main Line in the middle and the London, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway over the top on a viaduct.

  4. I hope I'm not too late to join this thread. The railway bridge was there in 1964 when my parents and I moved to Rise Park but I don't know if the trains were still running. The line that ran down the side of Hucknall Road near Rise Park had been closed and the bridge over Bestwood Park Drive taken down. I used to drive the Trent 84 route from Nottingham Huntingdon Street to Sutton in Ashfield.
  5. I joined Nottstalgia some time ago but haven't been very active, I Googled Forestdene and was directed here. Thomas Stapleton was my 4C3R. Until just now I hadn't heard of Emma Jane nee Sadler although I have some Sadler's in my tree. I would be very grateful for any snippets of information on this family. I live in Western Australia now but I was born in Basford. My paternal Great grandmother was Agnes Ann Stapleton, born 1864 in Clay Cross, Derbyshire of a Basford father Samuel. I only discovered the Basford link recently, long after I left England. In the late 1940's and early 50's I was a
