A Technical school taught you a trade. My hubby went to People's College Technical school and they were taught woodwork, metalwork, plumbing and brickwork along with their regular subjects.

Wonder why they just didn't put Noon til Midnight. Seems easier.

The church below St Aidan's was Queensbury Street Baptist, my dad went there in his latter years.

He's made a ton of money from those paying him to cover up!

When I get back home I will check the family history. I do believe from memory, grandparents lived at 3 different houses on Cheltenham St. Grandma must liked to 'flit'.

Both my parents lived on Cheltenham St before marriage. Mam actually on the street, dad in Bell Terrace. The latter was demolished and Pear Tree Court built on there. They married in St Aidan's church.

Speaking of differences in meanings between, the UK and US, when we first came here, someone said, get your fanny over here!. Whaaaat? Fanny is butt here.

Funny you should say that Phil, my mam always told me I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth, and I took her literally! I really thought I did. I was born in a council house of working class folks, but I think what she meant was, I had it a lot better than they did growing up.

I always dressed up to go into town, as did my friends. I don't think 'casual' clothes existed in the 60's really. You dressed up for work, going dancing, cinema and shopping. Some ladies might have their rollers in when local shopping, but always covered by a headscarf. We have seen in the past photos, folks on holiday still dressed in their 'home' clothes. I have a photo of me in Trafalgar Square on a Raleigh day trip all dressed up including stilettos to walk around London.

Hate ripped jeans. Large women in leggings and tight tops. People in airports about to fly in what looks like pyjamas! (We always dress nicely to travel). Socks and sandals especially dress socks. At least wear white socks if you have to!

Are you Pete Dexter?

Same in our house CT. Also if any man had the surname of Green, he was usually called Nobby. Surname of White was usually called Chalky. Wonder if folks still do that?

I sympathies, once had a frozen shoulder and couldnt even put my hand behind my back to put ne coat on ,very painful business , hoping you get a resolution to your complaint , at least you can't raise a hand to clip hubby around the earhole !
My husband had the same thing, couldn't reach back, couldn't sleep on that side. Went to see his doctor, who gave him a cortisone shot in his shoulder, and instant relief. This must have been at least 6 months ago and still no pain,

So long as they don't say, just a small prick. Could deflate one's ego.

If any of you go for this, I don't want any of that 'show and tell' malarkey.

Y'all making me miss our allotment we had when living in Surrey. 3 pounds a year to rent it. 1 stand pipe for all the allotments so had to carry the water. We planted runner beans as well as other things, but the beans did the best. We would traipse down to the allotment every evening with the 3 kids. Pull weeds, pick beans, then back home to freeze them. We had a chest freezer and filled it each summer to last all year.
