I was surprised, many years ago, when I discovered that 'Mardy' isn't a real word in official dictionaries; it only appears in Slang or Regional dictionaries.
It perfectly describes a certain kind of person and attitude. If Mardy didn't exist, what else could you use in 'proper' English ?

There was a pub named The Rising Sun on Hornbuckle Street.....so you are both correct !

I believe Denman Gardens was this kind of thing...........
....even though the photo shows Connaught Gardens, which was nearby.

I found an old, rather yellowed filed plan among papers I was sorting through the other day. It shows Garden Street around 1966 ish. I'll look it out. Looks nothing like that area today.
And this is the map Jill refers to. I assume the General Havelock (which brought us here) is the P.H. I've arrowed on Ronald Street. Bloomsgrove Street is no longer a through road to Denman Street.

Another photo from Jill S., showing boys who were born around 1942.

Ronald Street is still there today, although looks a bit different to its old days.

Was Ronald Street near to Garden Street?
Going up Ilkeston Road..........Garden St; then Bloomsgrove St.; then Ronald St.

Yes, it was also the first time I became aware of Clive James.
Another presenter on 'Cinema' (slightly later) was George Melly; first time I'd seen him anywhere.
-
Going back before his chat show, I first saw Michael Parkinson on a programme called 'Cinema' (a film review programme) on Thursday nights at 10.30.

I'm reliably informed that Gary Colman is the son of Enid Colman nee Heggs. Enid Colman and her hubby were well known in Nottingham for their dancing school/nightclub establishment.
Presumably that would be the same Colmans as here.

Another old Berridge photo which Jill recently found, and will soon be along to explain.

An estimate of £240,000 for a Brough bike. You could buy almost all of Bulwell for that.

Trogg, I suspect you'll still be here long after almost everyone else has gone.

I think it's a case of 'you win some, you lose some'.
My sister had her first ever flu jab earlier this year, and decided she won't be having another. She spent the following week in bed with the worst flu she'd ever had.
I've had several flu jabs with no problem.

if it does shut down completely, I must admit I’ll miss the free car parking most of all.
I've never been there since it became Wilko, but I was often there when that was the car park (on the roof) for Sainsbury's.

I've had all the boosters available so far (and another coming up in a couple of weeks) and I've not had any negative side effects.

Talking of music and especially of interest to you Cliffton as an ex British Midland guy look what’s up on auction shortly for up to £1.2 million, the initial draft of Bohemian Rhapsody in 1974 on a British Midland calendar notepad. I can remember using those notepads when I joined in 1974 in crewing. Presume Freddie was travelling on Midland and asked for some paper!
Yes, the link worked.
I don't specifically remember those forms, but it brought back memories with the list of all the offices (Southend, Newquay, Tees-Side, etc etc), and also the rectangular logo in the shape of an aircraft (BMA).
