In a strange coincidence, I'm reading Nonna's post during the warmest, sunniest day we've had in Nottingham so far this year.
And I also see that another consequence of the Italian floods is that the F1 Grand Prix has been cancelled because of the conditions in the area.

Haven't seen Ben for a while hope he's ok.

Ben hasn't posted for a while but he's been logging in here (and on FB) so he's probably just busy chatting up a few ladies.
Albert Smith, on the other hand, hasn't logged in here since January, which is concerning.

The only car lock I ever had - many years ago - was one of these....which clamped over the handbrake and gear lever.

It's also surprising that the Lost Pubs website doesn't even mention the New Town Inn at St Ann's.
https://www.closedpubs.co.uk/nottinghamshire/nottingham_ng3.html
...although it does mention the version at Bulwell.

To complicate matters, there was also a New Town Inn at Bulwell.

I don't know anything about it, but the New Town Inn seems to have been on the corner of Northumberland Street/Great Freeman Street.

Re: the first photo.
A feature of school photos from that era (it definitely applies to Clifton) is that there's usually at least one boy wearing a bow tie.

That looks very impressive. A fine example of Man-Shed .......and other similar descriptions.

Hows my day more like hows my month. It started off OK looking around a garden centre I saw a nice wooden arch and fancy trellis . That will go great on my decking so I purchased it . On placing it on the decking it made the decking look cr*p. so off to buy new decking.
After a tale like that, you'll have to post a photo of the end result so we can all admire your handiwork.

Former Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi has been given the push from Cardiff after a few months.
He lasted at the City Ground for around 18 months.
-
Quite possibly. I remember having more than a few of them back in those days.

Summer in the City - Lovin' Spoonful
The first record I ever bought for myself, on my own.
I got it second-hand from a stall on the old Central Market.

.......... Sistine Raul.
Never come across Sistine as a name (unless you have the surname Chapel).
Googling the subject tells me that it's a girl's name but I think/assumed the person in the photo is a boy.

Jill S has asked me to post this photo, which is the cricket team for Huntingdon Street Juniors in 1964.
Very 1960s because the boy on the back row, third from left, is wearing a jumper with a pattern which half the boys in Nottm seemed to have.

Finally on my way to visit Nottingham, it was a rather last minute decision. Couldn't decide on where to stay either in town or in one of the surrounding villages, we finally decided on Rainworth Lodge on Blidworth Lane which i assume is in Blidworth?.
When was the last time you were in Nottingham ? If it's a long time ago (eg several years) you might struggle to find your way around now.
And if you remember the city centre as having a lot of shops.....it's not like that any more.

St Albans Cathedral also has a family of peregrines.

Sorry to hear that Margie, but maybe you were just at the wrong angle at the wrong time in the wrong lighting conditions. Maybe the next time one appears, things will be back to normal.

Ation corner is mentioned in several old threads.

For no reason other than I can, here's a list of the pubs within a short distance of Bentinck Road. It's not definitive. There's more the further out you go.
Radford Rd / Claypole Road - The Langham
Radford Rd / Hyson Street - The New Inn
Birkin Avenue - The Albany
Alfreton Rd / Palin Street - The Clarence
Alfreton Rd / Bentinck Rd - Alma Inn
Gadd Street - Forest Grove Inn
Ortzen Street - Marquis of Waterford
Alfreton Rd - Spread Eagle
Alfreton Rd - Windmill
Independent Street - The Forest Lion
Hartley Road - Col Burnaby
2 x either side end of Forest Rd - Forest Inn and Queen Hotel

Interesting. Is there anything in the surrounding streets maybe? He did say it wasn't the Alma
Your friend is probably remembering something which was near Bentinck Road - not on it.
Around the 1950s-60s there were at least a dozen pubs within a few hundred yards of Bentinck Road. And you could double that number with a slightly wider area.

Could it have been some kind of club - rather than pub ?
-
I'm open to correction on this, but I don't think there have ever been any pubs on Bentinck Road; I'm not aware of any and there's nothing on old maps or anywhere else.
The closest is/was the Alma Inn on the corner of Bentinck/Alfreton Road.

The prices certainly seem more sensible and realistic compared with what they previously wanted.
The ultimate problem is still that the name of the place doesn't match what people expect to see.
