Yes, that was it HSR. Monsters of Rock. Still got the T shirt somewhere. Can't remember the long wait, but the alcohol intake was taking effect by then. The four of us had taken twenty litres of homemade wine between us, and loads of cans. Even the odd showers didn't spoil it.

Spot on Shirley, as an avid gig goer, I can't stand for hours on end nowadays, and prefer arena concerts with seating.
Festivals were fine in the 60's and 70's, but I can't stand being cold, wet, hungry or away from a comfy bed.
Last festival was the Download in the mid 80's. Whitesnake, AC / DC and Slade. Oh, and I could drive home to bed.

Yes, I noticed that the gaps have concrete bases to enhance drainage. As you say, I've never noticed any serious flooding along there.
At least there's nice newly surfaced lay-bys to benefit the fly tippers !

You just wait, there'll be blooming cameras in the vicinity within the next few weeks.
At least the road from the A614 to Oxton island has now reopened. It's been closed for weeks, causing drivers to take a signed diversion. However, I've always taken one of the other turn offs just north, and ignored the long winded diversion.
I assumed that they were resurfacing the entire stretch of road in question, but I noticed yesterday, that it was only patched up. Typical !

Well the namby pamby brigade have been active again ! The stretch of Mansfield Rd (A60) from the Oxclose Lane junction, to the start of Redhill is now reduced from 40 mph to 30 mph. There's just one warning sign outside Lidls of the new limit. Blooming marvellous !
It's been 40 for as long as I can remember, and I can't recall any serious incidents.
What next, we all follow a uniformed buffoon carrying a red flag ! Anyway, just beware folks.

I visited Great Chalfield Manor last week. A National Trust property near Melksham, Wiltshire. In the great hall, there was an old wooden cupboard, which slits in the front and rear. It originally was filled with bits of food to be doled out to the poor and needy from around the estate. Hence the term 'Dole', as nowadays used to help the unemployed in the land.

If we get loppy back, and as Lizzie says, get a few old stalwarts returning, we might get some REAL banter back.

Tongue in cheek yet again Margie, but yes, occasionally I do !

Glad you're feeling a bit better, and thinking positive Ben. Keep it up, and welcome back to the Happy House !

Cheap and ill fitting toilet seats really bug me. Had a recent short break in a suite in a lovely hotel in Carmarthen. Everything you could wish for was there, but oh dear. It was really spoiled by a wonky cheap plastic seat. You'd be amazed at the stuff I bought on eBay, when the seat continually slipped to the right, and my finger pressed the wrong button !
Then a couple of days later, whilst travelling from there to Dorset, I stopped at a nice restaurant for a meal. I went to the loo before leaving, and lifted the lid. It wouldn't stay up, so I lifted the seat, and likewise, it kept dropping down. As a last resort, I sat on the seat, with the lid pressing into my back. Most uncomfortable to say the least.
Then while in the depths of Wilts / Dorset, I encountered those appalling tin bowls with little bits of rotting wood on the top. Hovering was the only answer !
Oh to be home with my nice plush one !

According to Radio Nottm, the new one on the embankment was opened today.

I notice some new builds in historical areas are being built with either reclaimed bricks, or the repro versions. Both to my mind look fantastic, although I prefer the originals. Anyway, there seems to be bricked up windows incorporated in many of them, so as to blend in with the really old ones in the villages.
Since working for a short while at the Nottm Patent Brick Co over 50 years ago, I've had a fascination with bricks and various styles of bricklaying. I won't bore you any longer folks, but there used to be a brilliant brick museum in Somerset.

Welcome CB. I think the crossing in question is the one that was replaced by Bobbers Mill Bridge sometime in the 50's I believe.
Other than that, it's possibly somewhere on the sidings that used to run adjacent to Melbourne Park.
I'm certain that someone conversant with old maps will elaborate hopefully.

Re nuisance calls. We had some furniture delivered recently, and left madams mobile number with the firm to arrange delivery.
Since then, she's had 23 calls in the last fortnight from Harrogate, Huddersfield, Leeds, Sheffield, Chester, Stoke and Uttoxeter, and blocked them all. I thought it was now illegal to sell on customers details to a third party.

Exactly on both counts !

Tibor Szakacs, Steve Veidor, Alan Dennison, Johnny Yearsley, Clive Myers, Steve Grey, Mark Rocco, Bert Royal to name but a few more.
Saw several when they held wrestling on Skegness sea front in the late 50's-early 60's.

We all have Col, and that's precisely why I created the topic. Some folks want help or advice, others want to get things off their chests.
Some have good knowledge, and are willing to share it, and a few just want a moan and a gripe. The full spectrum of people's needs and requirements.

Margie, don't over react ! It was a bit of tongue in cheek banter regarding its phenomenal usage !
-
Yeah, good un RR. Just noticed myself , however, at the time, I didn't expect folk to abuse it.
-
A lot of ill health and aches and pains, but we've come to an age whereby it's inevitable, so let's just get on with our lives and quit griping !
Positive thoughts !

Mention of the allotments reminded me of when dad had the chippy. He had a galvanised bin with all the week's food waste in it, which we'd wheelbarrow down the the allotments to give it to Mr Timmins who kept pigs there. Great days.
