  1. Charlie gets it again!, Dennis Edwards replaced David Ruffin, anyone wanna hazard a guess which group he was with before the Temps?
  2. Meant to add this ages ago, the pub opposite C and A, was The Sawyers Arms!
  3. Heres another little question lads....."Which soul group in the 60's, replaced their lead singer with another man from a group on the same label?
  4. Well done Charlie! ( at last!!!) The other animal song Lee did was "Ride your pony"! I actually met him, at The Dungeon in '66 where, amongst others, he did both of those songs. As for the term Northern soul, a dj called Dave Godin (i think hes still around came up with it in the very early 70's basically just to put a label on what was being played in the clubs a little more north than Watford lets say. (Actually a good deal more!) Speaking of that, Kev Roberts has a series of cd's called "North of Watford" places like Selectadisc have them sub £5, and on the latest one which is a double (
  5. He seemed to like songs about animals.....he did one about a pony!
  6. Ok, just to keep on with the question bit.........What was the name of the visitor to "The Dungeon" in 1966, who sang a song about a cow?
  7. Ive just re discovered "A little togetherness" by The Younghearts, absolutely wonderful track.
  8. Chris is part of the regular line up at The Regency soul night in Ilson, and is also up at Donny 23rd December for that doo with Kev Roberts and me....(see calendar for details) Delroy Joseph, an old chum of mine was the lead singer, and was working at "Do It All" on Perry rd Basford when the song hit number 1!
  9. It must have been the Nick that i knew then, looking at the differences in opinion of the date of his sad demise, could it be that its wrong....and that hes still alive?
  10. Yeh, but they spelt the Monkees incorrectly!!! Hmmm......anyone else click to listen? it looks as if its loading.then reverts to its former state, and doesnt play.
  11. I recall a Nick Palmer during my days with NJD, and the clubs they supplied with DJ's, was he ever at Oscar Wildes at Holme Pierrepont, latterly Blotts?
  12. It certainly is a great station! Those jingles that they use have been around 40+ years, and have been used by lots of stations worlwide, including the old Gem, and now defunct Saga. However.......all thos e ferkin Christmas songs they're already playing! Big turn off!!!!!!! PS, unless im mistaken, their "station idents" are voiced by one of Americas most popular jocks, Mike Harvey, who hosts "Supergold" on many stations Stateside.
  13. Beefy, i did reply (i think!) when you asked originally, that Paul did show up on an unpaid radio station some time back, ill try and find out what hes up to now.
  14. The Post seemed hapy enough to be tied into it (promotionally) to be giving away 2 for 1 vouchers for the outdoor rink a few weeks back too..................... Looking at those running costs, i can now see why maybe they dont wish to have to be paying for my services too!
  15. Its actually being run by the Ice Centre personnel. In fact, there may be an occasion when you see me there, but, as with most things, it all depends on the budget!
  16. I recall, in the back of my mind, either meeting, (through Graham Neale) AB and K, but also recall gigging with them, i might be wrong about the last bit though!
  17. Yep, i went regularly, i wasnt actually old enough, so i had a fake membership card, truth is it was actually someone elses that i doctored! Later on though, a friend from around the corner was on the door, so it wasnt that important. I was also there when Amen Corner were, in fact, as i was going down the stairs, they were coming up! I saw, and in fact met a number of acts there, includidng Edwin Starr, Lee Dorsey, The Action, and the lesser known Root and Jenny Jackson, who always went down well. Once though, the owner booked a band called This End, i still have the flyer, where it states
  18. Blimey! my old mate John Dobson was on there! His sis also used to visit me at Le Freak at The Rig, (part of Love Shack)
  19. Funny thing here, i bumped in to my old chum Stu, about a month ago, at the Hardwicke Arms, on the edge of the Hardwick Hall estate, as i was taking my mum out for a birthday nosh, We were regulars at The Dungeon, and other noted soul venues in the 60's in Nottingham. Im actually doing a soul and motown "do" for someone this Saturday for his 60th birthday, pity its a private one, otherwise id invite you all!
  20. I know i was, and mostly sourced from Arcade Records, West End Arcade, Kev and Paul Thomas, Kevin, i "inherited " when i first Joined Trent, to do the import section of my show.
  21. Bills name rings a bell, was/is he scottish? wife called Agnes? Used to run the pub on Sandringham drive Bramcote? The Rose Grower was it?
  22. Stu, if you come up to The Regency in ilkeston, i would get you a pint as a token re the Virgin shop disagreement. However, you would have to have positive id as i could see about 265 members on here all pretending to be you to get a free pint off me!
  23. Ok boys, listen up!!!! I Humbly Apologise, as promised, because ive finally found ONE person, in my circle of friends etc, that can actually remember Virgin on King st, and Clumber st. Strange thing is, that despite a lot of them being dj's, and record shop owners ( Rob Smith to name but one, ) none of them could remember Virgin on either street, other than where it is now (just like me, and indeed Virgins longest serving employee in Nottm.) So there we are, the apology as promised, i was wrong, however, im still not convinced the Stones ever did any gigs in Nottingham!
  24. Are you contesting that due to the fact some sites are undeniably unreliable for pure facts, that the arrest of the Nottingham Virgin boss in 1977 is in question too, Craig? Therefore that Virgin didn't exist in Nottingham before the 1980s' as you stated? Virgin Records are listed in the Nottingham telephone directory for 1976 as being at 7, King Street. The 1980 directory has them at 21 Clumber Street. Stu, no im not. As i said if i see it in confirmed black and white print, i will gladly admit to being wrong, if someone can actually scan the 76 phone entry, no prob. Re the Beatlles
