  1. Not supposed to eat taties anymore - sad. Apparently they are a member of the nightshade family, and are not good if you have any inflammatory diseases like Osteoarthitis or similar. If one might quote: Doesn't mean I don't eat them, just means I try to keep it to minimum. Chip butties only once a fortnight. Tend to replace with sweet potatoe, which doesn't have the same problem.
  2. When not here, I hang out on a military aviation forum, and both Wills and Harry are held in extremely high esteem by all contributors there. As do I. Both are pretty top-notch guys, especially Wills as a SAR jockey. Neither of them have been "desk" jockeys. They're both doing their bit at the coal face.
  3. Fifty three years ago I swore an oath of allegiance to the monarchy when I joined Aunty Betty's Flying Circus (RAF). There were no conditions attached, as in only as long as they paid me or similar. And I do tend to take such things seriously. If you swear an oath then you swear an oath. So I have no hesitation in being wholly supportive of the monarchy at all times. Loking at the current dramatics in the US with the shut-down and debt ceiiings, who do they have to look to for "moral" guidance. The nongs in Hollywood or in some sports stadium? Shudder!!! I use the word "moral" in the context
  4. So nobody wants to be stuck in a wheely bin and taken to the tip? Actually a wheely bin with the lid stuck down and launched at sea has some potential, 'cept for the pollution aspects..
  5. Find it hard to understand. When I was young, we didn't know any fat people, far less obese, yet pies, puddings and dumplings were the norm. I know people go on about more exercise back then to burn the calories, but for the last two years I have walked a golf course three to four times a week. That's a good 10 kms each time with lots of hills, plus hauled a golf buggy with 18kgs of clubs and kit. Add in all the chores around the house, vacuuming, shopping, etc. then I keep pretty active, yet I battle to keep the kilos off even when just picking at rabbit food. That's unless we all had blood
  6. All I do is make what is effectively a dryish meat and potatoe stew, not too much liquid. Then stick it in a pie dish and lay some pastry over it, trimming the edges. I make my own short crust pastry. Any liquid left over can be thickened and used for gravy when serving. Use the pastry leftovers to decorate the top. Roll it out, use a pastry cutter to make circular pieces which I then cut into quadrants and positioned on top of the pie. Then brush the top with a beaten egg to give a glaze, and pop it in the oven. Got a funny chukky shaped porcelain pie lifter, which goes in the middle to stop
  7. With graveplots becoming in short supply in many countries, the days when you could be assured of a plot in the local church graveyard with a headstone have long since passed. So what would be your choice when the time comes? Especially if your imagination knew no bounds. Buried up on Kinder Scout; or placed on a high platform in the Himalayas and your bones picked clean by vultures. Perhaps have your body frozen in liquid nitrogen and then stored in the hope that you can be recusitated in the future, or donated to science for medical students to dismember. Cremated and your ashes carried int
  8. Noted that IP.Board - Invision charge like a wounded bull for their software. I've run quite a few forums and have always used Open Source software which is free. You need a few more clues in setting it up, but members of community support forums are only too happy to help. Currently run SMF on two forums. When the forums carried a lot more traffic I used leased hosting that only cost sixty quid a year. That included full CPanel, MySQL and latest PHP. Since becoming more active on Nottstalgia I seem to be chewing up a lot more download quota. Which suggests that all editing is taking place
  9. Fantastic display of fireworks from ships on the harbour. Unbelievable. Jeez, but it's truly beautiful place. Projecting historical videos onto the sails of the Opera House.
  10. Big deal on Sydney harbour today. A full fleet review to celebrate 100 years of the formation of the Australian Navy. Prince Harry is taking the salute from the RAN accompanied by masses of ships from navies worldwide, including tall ships. Hope they show a bit on the telly over there. The harbour looked magnificient with perfect weather for the day. When I was living in Sydney used to pay just over a quid for a concession ferry ticket for a day on the water.
  11. Shouldn't be reading this as I am trying to lose weight. Doesn't matter how hard one tries always put on a few kilos in Winter. <sob>
  12. No good stocking up now, love. They would have all gone flat well before 2063. Visions of Beefsteak with 200 pint pots on a table in front of him.
  13. Mick, do you get Awstats statistics with Geo data? From this you should be able to ascertain where the "visitors" are coming from. If you find that the bulk of the hits are from Chinese or East European IP Addresses, then it could wind down as fast as it wound up. My webserver regularly gets DDOS attacks that ramp up traffic significantly. DDOS - Distributed Denial of Service. It's where a mass of hits are received from invalid addresses, yet the server doesn't know this and is forced to reply.
  14. Have just climbed out of the Tardis after a quick trip to 2063 , and unfortunately folks you are all wrong. It's nothing like what you think it might be. What has actually happened is that Nottingham has taken over from London as the centre of the Universe. Many of the more Northern suburbs have become ghettos for the Fliegens and Amorphytes. Both being alien races, and those here being refugees from the intergalactic wars. Fortunately the drain on the economy from the provision of benefits to these races never eventuated. The Fliegens have taken up residence down the sewers, so no housing re
  15. Don't remember a "Broadmarsh Shopping Centre". When did they build that?
  16. Actually one of the most important days of any year is the 4th May. No it's not my birthday. It's Star Wars day, as in "May the forth be with you" - when all us Jedi Knights get together and do unmentionable things to teddy bears, believing them to be mummified Ewoks.
  17. Brekkie time here now. But last night I had freshly baked home-made bread in open sandwiches with my favourite toppings - nice squidgy avocado mixed with feta cheese and boiled egg, with just a touch of mayonaise. Thinking about I feel hungry.
  18. We used to use the church hall for something, but can't for the life of me remember what. Mind you there was no way I would have wanted to hang around anything to do with school when I didn't have to.
  19. A quid for a trolley loan. Remember being shown a five pound note by my Dad. It was one of the big ones, remember them. I think it was his pay and his holiday money for a week. And that was to suppport a wife and six kids.
  20. The last half-way decent movie I saw at a cinema was Avatar . Even bought the DVD. Hate going to cinemas these days. They seem to set the sound levels for when the place is full, which absorbs the sound, and then when they have concession tickets and the place is virtually empty they don't turn it down, so you are deafened. Now I wait until it comes out on DVD or Blu-ray and watch it at home, where I have control over the volume. Anyway my Mum always used to refer to them as f l i m s.
  21. Intrigued by the 1/2 bushel. Is it related in anyway to a fraction of a chain or fathom, or even a percentage of an acre? Cracked it, it's slightly less than 3 cubits.
  22. Need a caption on the picture Trev. Looks vaguely like an albino possum, but not sure.
  23. So you're the person who was responsible for the swan found partially cooked on a canal bank, as reported a couple of months back by Auntie Beeb.
