Second Christmas card today. Must empty the shredder!

@margie Cats are strange creatures with strange ways as you know. We have an elderly black cat who will sometimes take herself off at night to sleep in the hay in the field shelter. Our security camera alarm just sounded and I spotted on my iPad a neighbour’s cat happily trotting down the drive in the falling snow when it could have been snug at home. You can’t understand cats!

I'm personally not putting any up. My wife puts a wreath on the front door and puts a tree in both the lounge and dining room. I've chainsawed the outdoor fir tree so no lights there this year. As we are maintaining isolation over Christmas I can see no point in the whole stupid business!

Just tried Beauvale cheese from Cropwell Bishop creamery as recommended by Jonab. Stilton like in taste but much softer. Very, very salty though. Quite enjoyed it.

No decorations here until Christmas Eve. I hate them!

I’ve never owned a shotgun but I did use to borrow one from a farmer neighbour when we had a rabbit problem. They are nasty, lethal bits of kit. I’ve known two people who’ve committed suicide with a shotgun. I do have a couple of .22 air rifles which will easily pick off rabbits, squirrels and pigeons. One has a laser sight so it’s virtually impossible to miss the target. I don’t have the heart to kill anything these days though and I just do the occasional bit of target shooting.

Take care. The penalty for carrying it in public can be 4 years in prison and an unlimited fine. We used to have scout knives on our belts when we were kids and nobody was bothered. Times have changed. On my continental business trips I always used to carry a Swiss Army penknife and a mains tester screwdriver as there were often things which required ‘sorting’ in French and Italian hotel bedrooms. (not in Germany of course!). They would certainly be confiscated at the baggage check nowadays.

Yes, I read recently that it was a 'touch and go' situation regarding power supply to the grid during a period of very little wind to turn the wind turbines.

The name Seymour reminds me of an MP for Broxtowe in the 1950’s, Seymour Cocks. He slogan, possibly unwittingly, was ‘Seymour Cocks, vote Labour’.

It’s interesting to see that Tesco are paying back their business rates relief as supermarkets have been open throughout the lockdown and have done good business. The other supermarkets have now been forced to take the same line. I bet they’re not too happy about Tesco forcing the situation.

Yes, I’ll take Welsh as a second Language, Mandarin Chinese and Home Economics. I’ve got most of the others!

It's owned by Celine, a private limited company which is itself a consortium of international lenders.

An easy mistake to make. You could never find any damn thing/thong in that shop.

At Burton's fish counter you had to pay for you purchase at a desk so you never got fishy smelling change. Very genteel.

I read that people were queuing outside Primark from 6am today. Is that where you get vaccinated?

I've just discovered that Griffin & Spalding were sold to Debenhams in 1944 but continued to trade under their old name for many years.
-
Back in the 50’s didn’t Griffins have commissionaires out front who would assist you with car parking?

Read the rules

Shops like Debenhams and H of F have never appealed to me. If I want a department store I go to Boundary Mills on the A1 near Grantham which is readily accessible with free parking.

I think time would have been up for a lot of these high st. retailers over the next few years. The lock down and online buying has just accelerated it. It's very sad for the employees though, especially at this time of year.

She was scrapped in Radcliffe on Trent in 1962. It's said that the keel can still be seen in the mud of the river. I thought it might have been a Dunkirk 'little ship' but so far I can find no evidence.

I just Google it BK!

Built in Norfolk in 1892 and came to Nottingham in the 50’s.

2000 was the year when we had severe floods in the Trent valley. We took my inflatable on its transport wheels to the bottom end of the village and then rowed at hedge height down to Gibsmere. The old houses there are built high to avoid flooding. The care home at Hazelford had been earlier
evacuated as by then it was cut off by water. We avoided the floods at home as we are on much higher ground.
How's your day?

I just don't see the point of all the glitz although I must confess I would like to brighten up the enforced dull life I'm leading. I'm starting to get brassed off with mask wearing and not chatting to friends. Yes, I do have friends.
