  1. Notte bianco tonight. Festivities in main  square everywhere is open all night. Tables everywhere restaurants and bars are serving food for takeaway or sitting down. It’s early yet but lots of people around . Music groups are walking through everywhere. Lovely atmosphere and what makes it even better is that there’s a lovely breeze perhaps every now and again a little stronger but it’s FANTASTIC. Hope it rains tomorrow.

  2. Let’s get this terrible summer over and then we can start to think about Christmas. I for one will be pleased to feel cold. Last year my daughter and I baked lots of mini Christmas cakes. I made 8 jars of mincemeat and still have 6 left so that’s one less thing to do. I think mini cakes are probably better for us anyway and they do look pretty when decorated. People here are shocked when we start to make Christmas caked and mincemeat so early. They are convinced that everything will go rotten. But little do they know. ;)

  3. What a lovely surprise this morning on my husbands 80 th birthday. Had just finished hoovering my kitchen floor (one dog is moulting so plenty fur) Knock on the kitchen door and my niece and family were there carrying a tray full of pastìccini all lit with blue candles. Seeing as we as a family are celebrating tonight they thought they would be the first of my in-laws to give him best wishes. But come Sunday it will be a bigger celebration with his sisters and brothers and families. So the day began on a happy note.

First time I’ve had cream cakes for breakfast. !!

  4. Think you’re right Margie. My husbands just been looking on ( painfully thinking what the hells it called)? Something or other and it’s about growing up Italian. He said it’s perfect and how he remembers it. Getting late for school and they closed him out so he climbed up onto a high roof and lowered himself down through a window. Making things from nothing, scrumping fruit and getting the fright of his life when the farmer shot at him and many more. I keep telling him to write a book. Working from the age of 11 has taught him a lot that books don’t cover. In the tiny village in Sicily where he was born children had no choice especially from large families. Most had a little tiny allotment and had to work the land or look after the sheep and goats. But when it came to summer and enjoyment they made the most of it. They danced with the minimum of music. One had a guitar another an accordion yet another with the metal thing you put in your mouth and twanged it to make music. Everyone got together and brought something to eat and of course the wine was never missing because they had no water. I remember when he took me to Sicily before we were married. Everyone had buckets and bowls of water in their bathrooms because the taps were dry. Still can’t thing of what it was called. Think I’m starting with dementia :Shock:Sorry Margie got off the track a bit. It is lovely to outside and enjoy the coolness of the evening and I’m sure the dog enjoyed it too . Our dogs dash outside and stretch out then realize the ground is hot so go back in and stretch belly down on the tiles or under the bed in the shade.

  5. PhilI don’t think there’s a chance to go back to Nottingham even more so now with Brexit which means Passports. I got a one a while ago although I did say I wasn’t going to get one. Alex doesn’t want to know. The nearest I think my daughter and I will be to Nottingham will be London. A late birthday present from my daughter , we couldn’t celebrate because Alex was in hospital. Then it was going to be too hot in the summer so we’re hoping to go after Christmas when she’s got a few days free.

Congratulations to Alex at 80. I don’t suppose there’s much chance now of you both returning to Nottingham to open another excellent eating place? We started at La Bucca and followed you around until you left.

But you didn’t follow us here did you? It’s Alex’s birthday today its not today. . It must have been the balmy evening air last night that’s caused the fogginess in my head . I will pass on the wishes Thankyou Lizzie and Phil.

  7. Lizzie I’m sorry that UK have had bad weather but here it’s unbearable. It’s been 37 c until about 6pm and when I came in it was 27c. All the windows are open and it’s so hot. This is apparently going to last until Friday then it’s getting cooler ( so they say)
Tomorrow is Alex’s 80 th birthday and for once we as a family are getting together and going to a castle for dinner. Sounds grand but it’s a very large restaurant in a castle. It’s awful that Deborah and James have different days off as we never seem to get together. But Deborah has managed to get her restaurant closed for the evening. We normally eat early at home but we’ve booked to eat later as it’s so hot . Goodness I’m sweating so much could do with going out again. Cool cloudy and rain at the moment sound good to me. It’s not so much the heat as the humidity is so high. 80%.

  8. It’s nearly 10.pm and we’re sitting outside and the only thing we can hear is the cricket sitting on the wall .There’s a very clear moon and we’re trying to fathom where all and which stars they are. There’s a couple of planes flying to who knows where. It’s dark , only one street light outside next door and the only one along the road. Across the road up on the hill there are a couple of houses that have their lights on but all the rest is pitch black. It’s so peaceful. My daughter wants to sleep outside tonight . I don’t really want to go back inside but I’m certainly not sleeping outside with all the animals that wonder around. ‘ Night all.

  9. Watching the lunchtime news earlier it’s so sad the world has come to this. Fires in Hawaii, Canada and severe tropical storm in California. On top of this is the news of the 33 yr old convicted to life for the death of new born babies. She deserves to be hung drawn and quartered. After that we have a gang rape on a 19 yr old raped by 7 youths . That not being enough the mother of one of them said that she was a girl little repute.  Italy is appalled at this and hope it comes to justice for all .I’ve just read the comments that they wrote to each other during or after the act. Disgusting. I feel for kids growing up now , it wasn’t like that in our day is a song that we oldies keep on saying but it’s true. I fear for my grand daughter. Changing the subject is it Trogg who lives in Canada? Hope he’s nowhere near them.

  10. Yes Yellow Tail is a super market wine. My son was shocked when he saw it.” “Whatever made you buy that”  The only wine we do buy from a super market is the wine that’s produced here in this area. It’s good for drinking every day as we do but for something special we ask our son and he won’t drink rubbish. Practically all the wine we have is either DOC OR DOCD.

    Obviously not trying hard enough..

DJ you know what they say. Vino rosso fa buon sangue . L’Acqua ti fa ruginire ( red wine makes good blood and water makes you rusty.)

  11. Jill and Oz I’ve said before that Shiraz gave me a headache but it obviously didn’t agree with me. As you are true to Shiraz  which producer do you like or don’t you have a preference.

My son has an Enoteca along side his restaurant. He has over 500 different labels from different parts of the world. He only has 1 lable from Australia.. 280 Piemontese wines. He has tourists from all over the world who come to this area for food and wine so he always has a little wine for those  traveling. The wine he has is from the Margaret River area. I believe the producers are from a cooperative , can’t remember the name , Cape ….? Just looked at our wine supply and we have a SHIRAZ. Don’t think it was the one that made me I’ll. This one is Yellow tail which doesn’t entice me but I will try it.

  12. Babies have that effect Ben. Wish my grandchildren were still small. I still get cuddles and kisses from them but to kiss a babies head is wonderful and you can’t give a kiss on the head of 20 yr olds. They give them to me but the other way round “..Nonna basta lo so che mi vuoi bene”

( nonna enough I know you love me)
