  1. “Tu scende dalle stelle”  is my favourite Italian Christmas carol. There are so many variations from Pavarotti to Boccelli but I love it sung by children . Happy Christmas everyone. Here it’s very damp and foggy hope it’s better where you are. USA hope you’re not too snowed in , keep warm whatever however you want.smile2

  2. We have 2 bins, one for paper and one for plastic collected every two weeks. Un recyclable bags collected every week and kitchen waste in the compost bin if you have one and live in the country. Our kitchen waste goes to my daughters restaurant into their bin. Other rubbish such as leaves can go as kitchen waste or to the tip if there’s too much.

  3. I think I’ve mentioned this before about piddling. We had a restaurant on Thurland st years ago and at the side of it was a corridor that at the weekends was a favourite place for men to relieve themselves. My husband was fed up with having to disinfect the area so he connected an electric wire where they urinated. I can’t remember exactly how he did it but it worked, the first one to piddle had a mild shock certainly not enough to do any damage but it made sure no one else did it.

I add too that it was removed quickly and never used again.

  4. My husband and i get a small small pension from Jersey, He worked there for a short while but ive never worked there. This pension goes into an account in UK. We dont use it, but the bank keeps sending debit cards to both and a credit card to my husband. I havent had an english cc for a few years and every so often i used to be able to go online for checking the account. Now for some stupid reason i cant get into the account. So phoned the bank and got an indian gentleman. Dont get me wrong he was charming and very helpful but it took him ages to understand what i was asking for. At the finish it was a confermation number that i needed to get into the account which they were sending me on my phone. Where we live there is no signall so now i have to wait for the confirmation number by post  and apparently have to wait 25 days. So glad that when it does arrive i can go out on a spending spree.:jumping:

Mrs B, could it have been aloe Vera .

    Gem

Think it might be Aquasha chips.probably spelt it wrong but that’s what it sounded like. Mum used to use it for my brother who bit his nails.Aloe vero is bitter but I use it with honey and either gin, brandy or other spirit. It’s a good cure for lots of things. ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF SPIRIT in case you think I’m an alcoholic. Drunk 3 times a day before meals.

  6. Still snowing now at nearly 8 pm , been snowing since 11am. Traffic is at a standstill in many places and people in cars have been waiting 4 hrs to move. That’s unusual here for roads to be blocked but after almost 3 yrs without snow they can’t remember how to get the snow ploughing done.

  7. At the beginning of November we are requested (by law) to fit winter tyres or carry chains. I thought our winter tyres were on but hubby says no, so now it’s a scramble to get them before we either have an accident in the snow or get caught and fined. We are out in the country and no matter which way we go it’s either up or down hill. Snow is due from 10 pm so hope it’s late and and light. Uk has had a heavy downfall I heard. ?? Hope no one got stuck. Fortunately here we are prepared for getting the main roads clear. Our local snow clearer lives opposite.

  8. Sunday lunches. Mum always did a roast Sunday lunch but although it was delicious she wasnt a great cook. Her attitude with food was to “ bang it in the oven”. So consequently when I married I really didn’t know very much about cooking. When I had my daughter my mother in law came to stay  with us and I was embarrassed to cook but she took over and I learnt a lot from her. Living in Italy my cooking tends to be more Italian but sometimes I crave for steak and kidney pie ( without the kidneys ! )

  9. Jill I understand your concern and agree with it. Here by law anything that isn’t obvious by looking at it has to have ALL the ingredients listed either on packets or at the counter. Food controls go down very heavily by not abiding the law which is very comforting to know.

Do you know what?  I wish I was too young to get the Winter Fuel Allowance and the Christmas £10 bonus.

Lizzie I know your feelings, £10 wont make you any younger. Here Alex’s pension is also given for the 13 th month and sometimes 14 th month but don’t understand the extra month. All bills arrive this month so pensioners are pleased . I don’t get it though. Alex worked in Jersey before he went to Nottm and besides him getting a small pension I get one too although I’ve never worked there. It’s the grand total of £14 per month.:victory:

  11. I think I’ve posted this before but years ago we had a restaurant here in Italy A couple had been mushroom hunting and picked up a huge “ porcini” and wanted me to cook it. I don’t know much about much about mushrooms but didn’t like the look of it. I refused to cook it and they had something different to eat. The following week the wife rang to say she’d taken it somewhere to check what it was. Fortunately for them and us it was poisonous.
