Don't see many brit ads but the mcCain one does annoy me. I like the meercats but after a while they too bore. We have ads here too when the actors present the product and its as if they are reading the praises. Not convincing at all.

Just got a bit of time to check NS and so sorry to your problems Chulla. There the hospitals are like they are here ...on the ball where appointments are concerned. Hope everything goes well for you, you are in good hands. Hope you find out everything in the very near future. Good luck.

I'm still in touch with my penfriend after 60 yrs. I did actually meet her in 1966 and the following year she exchanged the visit. Lovely frienship.

As we live in Italy, we stopped sending xmas cards as they turned out very expensive to send and were usually the wrong size and what do you do with them afterwards, they usually go in the bin or sometimes to nursury and infants school. We try to make a point of tele phoning friends and relations living in uk. We have a contract with vodafone that permits us to ring local, national, north America and all europe for 29.00 per month. The only country that concerns us that isnt covered is Australia but with charges like that we can phone every week.
Forgot to say too that the postal service in Italy is ............

We get a load of emails saying our bank accountis at risk so confirm your password. They name only english banks. So they now go into junk automatically

Mrs catfan is right. Hip replacement nowadays is nothing. My husband had one 2 yrs ago and was up and walking the following day. He has to have the other one done as well. Unlike yrs ago when you had a scar down your leg or thigh , today they operate through your groin. Less pain and quicker recovery. Dont suffer.

Faults....well better ask my family no doubt there are loads but the one that springs to mind is that whenever I do something I like no matter what it is I put my heart and soul into it and wont stop even if I'm in agony with my back (I have a twisted spine) then when I do stop eventually I can suffer for days but at least I've done what I wanted to do. I'm also forgetful but I suppose that comes with age.

Well I'm quite happy where I am. We have the mountains an hour away, the Ligurian coast an hour and quarter away, beautiful countryside, lots of sunshine ( if its not foggy or raining) good food and the best wines. Whats more we have lots of festivities during the year. Carnival, wine festival, organised activities for adoptees of vines which invariably end up as feste. Public holidays for any excuse.
Many farms can't get rid of their fruit and veg and almost give them away. Loose wine can be bought straight from the vats at 1.00 per bottle. We have a good selection of shops, bars, restaurants, b& b's and agriturismi.
We are a community of 3000 odd small but compact.
We have quite a diversity of foreigners, me included but also chinese, albanians, macedonians, polish and rumanians. Some good some bad but we live in all tranquility, except when they park their cars right outside the bars on a narrow street and you cant pass !
Sorry didn't read the topic well enough. Nottinghamshire has so many lovely places I wouldn't like to have to choose.

Ciao la mia piccola anatrocola
#134 its a nasty joke foreigners play on unsuspecting english.
On a similar situation, when my husband was learning english he had problems with certain words such as shirt and sheets. He almost got his face slapped more than once. When I was in hospital , one of the drs wanted to know how to say, camicia (shirt) lenzuolo (sheet) and m**da( yes you got it and I had to tell him in english.

Whoops Chulla that won't get you very far. Just one of the many things that doesn't translate well. Try mio pulce ( my flea) but meaning my little one ( pulcino or little chick)

But is pronounced as a vowel as in " a" as in cat. Dropping the " h".
