  1. Lizzie I’m sorry that UK have had bad weather but here it’s unbearable. It’s been 37 c until about 6pm and when I came in it was 27c. All the windows are open and it’s so hot. This is apparently going to last until Friday then it’s getting cooler ( so they say)
Tomorrow is Alex’s 80 th birthday and for once we as a family are getting together and going to a castle for dinner. Sounds grand but it’s a very large restaurant in a castle. It’s awful that Deborah and James have different days off as we never seem to get together. But Deborah has managed to get her restaurant closed for the evening. We normally eat early at home but we’ve booked to eat later as it’s so hot . Goodness I’m sweating so much could do with going out again. Cool cloudy and rain at the moment sound good to me. It’s not so much the heat as the humidity is so high. 80%.

  2. It’s nearly 10.pm and we’re sitting outside and the only thing we can hear is the cricket sitting on the wall .There’s a very clear moon and we’re trying to fathom where all and which stars they are. There’s a couple of planes flying to who knows where. It’s dark , only one street light outside next door and the only one along the road. Across the road up on the hill there are a couple of houses that have their lights on but all the rest is pitch black. It’s so peaceful. My daughter wants to sleep outside tonight . I don’t really want to go back inside but I’m certainly not sleeping outside with all the animals that wonder around. ‘ Night all.

  3. Watching the lunchtime news earlier it’s so sad the world has come to this. Fires in Hawaii, Canada and severe tropical storm in California. On top of this is the news of the 33 yr old convicted to life for the death of new born babies. She deserves to be hung drawn and quartered. After that we have a gang rape on a 19 yr old raped by 7 youths . That not being enough the mother of one of them said that she was a girl little repute.  Italy is appalled at this and hope it comes to justice for all .I’ve just read the comments that they wrote to each other during or after the act. Disgusting. I feel for kids growing up now , it wasn’t like that in our day is a song that we oldies keep on saying but it’s true. I fear for my grand daughter. Changing the subject is it Trogg who lives in Canada? Hope he’s nowhere near them.

  4. Yes Yellow Tail is a super market wine. My son was shocked when he saw it.” “Whatever made you buy that”  The only wine we do buy from a super market is the wine that’s produced here in this area. It’s good for drinking every day as we do but for something special we ask our son and he won’t drink rubbish. Practically all the wine we have is either DOC OR DOCD.

    Obviously not trying hard enough..

DJ you know what they say. Vino rosso fa buon sangue . L’Acqua ti fa ruginire ( red wine makes good blood and water makes you rusty.)

  5. Jill and Oz I’ve said before that Shiraz gave me a headache but it obviously didn’t agree with me. As you are true to Shiraz  which producer do you like or don’t you have a preference.

My son has an Enoteca along side his restaurant. He has over 500 different labels from different parts of the world. He only has 1 lable from Australia.. 280 Piemontese wines. He has tourists from all over the world who come to this area for food and wine so he always has a little wine for those  traveling. The wine he has is from the Margaret River area. I believe the producers are from a cooperative , can’t remember the name , Cape ….? Just looked at our wine supply and we have a SHIRAZ. Don’t think it was the one that made me I’ll. This one is Yellow tail which doesn’t entice me but I will try it.

  6. Babies have that effect Ben. Wish my grandchildren were still small. I still get cuddles and kisses from them but to kiss a babies head is wonderful and you can’t give a kiss on the head of 20 yr olds. They give them to me but the other way round “..Nonna basta lo so che mi vuoi bene”

( nonna enough I know you love me)

  7. Sorry Shiraz gives me a headache , but after all it’s a matter of taste and how much you drink. I think you’ve got the wrong idea about fruit with red wine. It’s adaptable with anything besides drinking. My belated brother in law drank nothing else and he even ate it dipped in bread. That’s a famous habit going back centuries. It’s also a famous ingredient for a roasted meat. Although we have many wine producers in the village and produce more than one type the famous one is Barbera and the only one we drink. It even has a festival in  its honour

La festa della Barbera.  Enjoy your wine whatever it’s called and wherever it’s from but appreciate it for all its idiosyncrasies and don’t mock it because it will go sour on you. Ps when you have more wine than water you make the best of it,

Not posted to contradict or the attitude that “we are better” than you but the world is full of wine producers some good , some excellent and some bad and also some

bl ..dy awful and even some that needs flushing down the loo.  Drink what you like but remember the advice my son gives to his 2 sons “ if you are going to drink , drink the best but if you’re in doubt ring me and let me know what lable s on the bottle and I’ll tell you whether it’s fit for you. Then go ahead and enjoy it”.

  8. Temperatures are up again or should I say are resisting. Until Friday 38c then they are going to drop my daughter has enjoyed the heat for the last 2 weeks but she starts back to work Tuesday starting to prepare for the summer festivities, concerts displays etc so she’s not very happy starting back to cooking again in those temperatures. It it’s almost the end of August and the weather does change then it goes mad a bit and settles down but now .. who knows.

  9. I agree Amazon sometimes is a godsend. Lately I’ve used it a lot mainly because like Phil there’s no shop nearby that sells what I need in a hurry. The other morning I needed to access my phone but it was discharged. I couldn’t understand why until checking that everything was connected properly I found the wiring inside the cable was fraying .   NOw to buy a new one And spend more I have to get to shops such as Media World and it’s a 20 minute journey in this heat trying to park etc it’s just not worth it. I found a 1 meter cable for 5 €. It would have cost me that in petrol.Pool  chemicals are the same they are still expensive but much cheaper on Amazon. I am constantly running out of printing in cartridges so what do I do? Amazon again. Yes to have Prime you pay the price but it’s so convenient , you run out and the product is there the following day. It’s an ideal situation for people living a long way from shops

( civilization) As Ian says the delivery boys are so friendly. We used to have a young man who became a friend. He’d always got a smile, always asked how we were and he used to tell us his worries and problems. We missed him when others started to deliver but the others are the same. We have some that when they see us coming out of the front door hold the packs up and place them on the low wall and look over at the pool and most say “oh if only I wasn’t t on duty I could dive in”

One made us laugh as he took a photo and said he felt cooler just looking at the photo.

We have a dilemma with a glut of damsons. Dont say 'make jam', how much jam can you eat! I think I'll just eat them when I pass the tree and leave the rest to the wildlife.

Phil , An easy but no fail delicious method is to wash and dry your damsons place them in a jar and pour whatever your tipple is, over to cover the fruit and leave for about a month in a cool dry place. The end result is worth it.

Use Brandy, gin, grappa or any spirit you like. If you have any problems eating them I’ll come over and help you.:hungr:

  11. Just come in from fig picking. My son took 2 kg to his restaurant this morning . I’ve just given his wife almost 1.5 kg and it’s left me with 4 kg plus what figs we had left from yesterday. We have waited a long time for the second flush of fruit but this is an exaggeration there are so many. It’s a bit late to sort jars out tonight so tomorrow is jam making time before the next lot are ripe. At this rate I can’t keep up with them.
