  1. When I was younger and naive, i worked for a chap in a garage under the arches on Arkwright st. Whenever we had a Ford to repair he would go out and get the spares and always came back with a lot more than we required. One day two cid chaps came in and asked for the proprietor. I told them he was out getting some spares. They said that they would wait, on his return, they took him to one side, had a few words, looked in the boot of his car and arrested him.

Apparently,  he had been getting the spares from Hooleys, and he had a mate that supplied them!!. Can't remember the sentence, but needless to say, my work there was finished!!

  2. Loppy, no you don't need a licence if you don't watch live tv. And it doesn't matter if you have a aerial or dish attached to your property. You just have to prove that your not viewing live programs.

I think my main complaint is, the intimidating tactics they use if you don't apply for a licence. I cancel mine when we go on our winter vacation, about 4_5months. And when trying to inform them, a job in itself, i still receive threatening text messages, emails ect, 'your breaking the law',  investigators are coming, we have instructed enforcement officers,. You risk prosecution. Yet when you try to contact them, there is a very limited number of ways and that involves press this number then that number then another and so on. After 53minutes of trying, unsuccessfully as my battery on the phone went flat, i gave up. I'm not really worried what they do as i am not there to watch tv and will get one when I need one, on my return.

Iremongers pond, something to do with Albert Iremonger landlord of nearby Ferry pub. I Went to school near there and we always knew it as Georges pond.

Like you denshaw, when I went to Roland green, we always knew it as 'George's ' pond. The field on the other side of the road was where the pit ponies stayed!, When they came out of the pit.

it was on ITV which came free.

Apart from the fact that you have to have a BBC! Tv licence for!! Even though i thought that itv was free because of the advertising, i just hope that the Beeb go to subscription, and leave everyone else alone.

  5. Sounds like you are going about it the right way. Some may say over the top with the additional earth, but you can't be too safe. Mind you, I think that all new lamps with a metal body have to be earthed. Unless you intend moving the lamp around on a regular basis, the cable clamp is a bit ott, but it won't do any harm.
