Sorry does'nt ring any bells, I do remember a little butchers outfit not far from Commercial Sq, up a little alleyway to some small premises. You may know them now as Pork Farms.
Plus they had a shop next to "the square wine and spirits" just across the road from "Carnills"

As a lad that lived in st Anne's, I even went to the nursery at the top of bath st park ( not by my self ) and growing up used to play on the park. As I remember, park view flats, as it is now, was the old workhouses. If it was an asylum, it would have been a long time before my time.

Yes I remember now, collaluca, Reid (did he do sports as well?) Wallace, who was it that took ri? I can only think of him as holy Joe. Was his name Reid as well. And your correct about sue Best she was fancied by most of the lad's, but you would get a rap across the knuckles with a ruler if she caught you peeking up her mini skirt when she sat on the table. Why she didn't sit on a chair behind her desk I just don't know.

I also went to Roland Green 1968.Jake was the head master then. Eggleton was the metalwork teacher, Miss Best was our English teacher can't remember many others till I get my memory jogged

Come on folks, help me out here.
Round about 1957/58 there was a personal appearance of The Lone Ranger at the Cavendish Cinema between Peas Hill Road and Alfred Street. This was to celebrate the film called "The Lone Ranger and the Lost city of Gold."
Me and my mate Jimmy Redmund went to see him and it was packed. There was no advance booking, you just rolled up. Whether it was the real Lone Ranger or not I'l never know, but I have never heard of anyone who was there that afternoon. Surely someone in Nottingham can recall this.
Because I worked on Saturdays I had a day off in mid week. Because all my mates were at work I used to go to the cinema just about every week. Nottingham was blessed with so many superb picture houses in the 50s and 60s. I loved the Odeon, the ABC and the Elite. Now and again I ventured to the Scala but the "Cavvo" was my local place to go.
Anyone remember the Lone Ranger in Nottingham or have I dreamt it!!
Hi Den, no you didn't dream it, I also went to see him. Old Cliff was the doorman at the time and I used to get in for nowt. if i remember correctly, the lone ranger supposedly fired one of his silver bullets into the ceiling of the cavvo.

Hello catfan, Me, and brother used to push a Barrow up Union Road to a coal yard on the right hand side near the top of Union Road. We used to load the barrow up with coal, and push it in a foot of snow all the way to Edwin Street. It was hard going i'll tell you
I can remember the coal yard on the left going up Union rd from commercial sq but not the one on the right.

Hi everyone, just reading some of the posts, it seems like a few of you are familiar with the same things that jog my memories. when i get to go through them I will be able to be a bit more accurate with some of the finer details. There are some that are as clear today as if it happened yesterday, andos pawnshop, the cavo, I will try to run through the different post's and reply accordingly. My grandmother's café was in between nobles the cleaners and the coachmakers arms right opposite the admiral dundas. Old Joe Anderson had 4 terraced houses in our back Yard the first one was Mary rooks who worked for my Gran, the next two were rented to lot's of various folk's on a regular basis, and the last one was rented to Cliff who was the doorman at the cavo. Under all the rentals was andos furniture shop, that looked on to Union rd. If any one can add any more detail, that would be good.

Hi denshaw, your dead right, it was Davis for Ri. I can remember Robinson for woodwork. I don't remember Foster or Dyson. oh the good old days. Did you cut across Georges field if you were late?. I can remember when the pond froze one winter and i skipped school just to mess about on the pond. Didn't seem to matter in those days whether you went or not, or was it just me?.
