Phil, do you need a good Harpooner? 'Er indoors used to work on a whaling fleet, out of Whitby. ( Before she worked for Fellows, Morton and Clayton, carrying pottery out of Stoke.)

Hey up Oz., the programe was on Channel 4 on Freeview.
Don't know how your tv system works, but it was on the main channels. It's on Thursday nights and in three parts.
You should be able to get it on Internet All4 app.
Your servant sir...
( last night was about Shirebrook colliery).

Thank you Little Mel, for coming to an old mans rescue.
Now I can sit and listen to it without getting my CD or record out.

Watched the 1984 Miners strike.
Brought back memories as got caught up in it.
( Got caught in the 70s one as well. When I were at SPD).

@Oztalgian, G'day Oz, crackin' song mate, enjoyed listening.
Thank you, have a great day.

And if you shoot one, is it called Haggicide?

Will be thinking of you Brew and your brother. I know how you must be feeling. I lost my older brother to a stroke and I was led to believe that a stroke was contributing factor to my son passing away when he was only 23 years old.
My sincere regards to you both mate.
Barrie.

You and me both Phil. Always found him to ba sanctimonious hypocrite, especially after seeing him on a programe with daughter ( or stepdaughter). Whenever she pointed anything out, if it did'nt meet with his train of thought he would poo-poo everything she said and just dismiss it.

My practice nurse once told me that it would help my diabetese if I could lose some weight and so she referred me to a dietician. I gave it a try for a couple times but jacked it in. My nurse asked why I'd stopped and I explained that the last thing I needed was anorexic matchstick telling me I was overweight..

From what I remember Trogg, it always looked crystal clear, even back in the 50s. When visiting my Grandma, on Commercial road, I used to walk down to the bogs and dangle me little feet in the water before crossing the footbridge to play on the swings. Can't say what it was like for contamination in later years though, although when I lived up Sellars Wood road in the mid 80s, it appeared to be pleasant enough. Not been near those steps for 36years.

Following on Brew...
By the sign of the swing cymbal,
Just above the clashing rock,
I stood there in me undies,
While admiring my longest....
Smock.

Wonder if that would include Boolwull Bogs.

Talking of hearts...When I had my heart attack in Covid year, after having a couple of stents fitted and in recovery, I asked, 'Why is it that the cardiac unit is always on the top floor of most hospitals'?
It was explained to me that, in the event of an emergency ie, fire etc., cardiac patients would be least likely to survive an emergency. Really filled me with encouragement.

Love it pal ! Simply love it.

Got to agree with your statement above Phil. That's why I've decided to curb some of my banter on here. At least until I get to know the recipient a bit better.

They've taken all the fun out of radio Phil.

Jeff Waynes "War of the Worlds" ! Now that is a good listen. Can't be arsed to post it.

Alas Jill, you were'nt even born when I used to listen to A.R.
I don't think he really made the transition from radio to small screen. His type of humour started to get a bit stale. Others might not agree.

I remember well, as a youngster, sitting around the wireless listening to the Al Read show. I think it was on about 6.30pm
Another favourite was 'Journey into Space", with Jet Morgan, Doc and Lemmy, starring David Kossov and Alfie Bass among others. These were on the Light programe. These were regulars in the mid to late 50s, along with Paul Temple,
The Range Riders etc. All escapism from the drudgeries of everyday life. We did'nt know of anyone who was rich enough to own a television. Those were the days when we would sit and listen to the wireless while holding a slice of bread on a toasting fork and holding it against the front of an open fire. Toast does'nt taste the same from a machine.
