  1. Not seen no gallery or portraits , but on the 1st floor landing above the main entrance there's two 6/7 foot x 4/5 foot memorials the one on the left as you go to the offices is 1914-18 with probably 200 names on it & the department they worked in , on the opposite side where the dentist / doctor / nurse is there's a 1939/45 Memorial with at a guess about 300 names on it .

On Remembrance Day / Armistice Day there's always something placed in reception .

  2. The Blue Bell on Upper Parliament Street, with its nicotine-stained wallpaper, little nooks and crannies, brewery mirrors, patterned carpets and heavy chintz curtains !

Not now ! and its cleverly changed its address to Forman Street - from the flyer i had thrust into my hand by some spotty student last night.

"The Blue Bell refreshment emporium & lounge - A wonderous new establishment on Forman Street opposite Revolution @ the corner house enjoy iconoclastic food & beverages in a most unusual setting till late "

  3. After listening every women who have just come back to work from meternity leave , every break , every tea bar , phoning there Mum , "has he ate his/her yogurt / rusk / had his/her bottle" i would give them 5 years off with full pay .

I'm sure half these kids must think there Grandma & Grandad are there Mum & Dad .

  4. I've only seen a small clip on Jonathan Ross & no plans to see the film ( the last film i watched was back in 1984 electric dreams @ the Savoy )

But the book by David Peace was the best book i read last year , and possibly the best football book i have ever read. You really feel like you get into his head and start to feel the panic and hopelessness of his situation.

The 'dual time' mode of writing is very effective. Best chapter for me is the one where is takes his first training session and tells the players who have just won the league that they can throw their medals away!

    The Trailer looks as good.

  5. It was last Friday , i did report it , i nipped into central cop shop on the way home , she told me i would more than likely get stopped quite regularly my number would be on some number plate reader thing , i did test the theory on the Sunday daytime drove all over Nottingham with my new plates on ( valve shop £12 ) it was not until i came down London Road that a traffic copper tailed me all the way to Maid Marion Way !!!

Then he over took me !!

  6. Ha ha superb stuff don't know if you remember the false leg ? That was posted to a guy who lives in Thailand his last ever visit to the Variety and Nottingham was on the last Sunday 19/12/04 , he said there there was nothing left for him in Nottingham to come back for .

So if you ever come across this site Roger that leg cost me £14 to post .

  7. It's a pity that the Variety now makes the front page of the Evening post , when it should have made the front page on 19th December 2004 Gordon's last ever Sunday lunch time show , when there was 800 to 1000 bodies queuing up from 10 in the morning for a 12 o'clock opening . The atmosphere and warmth the club created was electrifying , when bus trips traveled from Newcastle/Portsmouth/Wales some even flew on Ryanair Sunday morning and returned later that day all for a 3 hour show , and guess what there was never one punch up or fight in 40 years of the Variety Sunday Lunch time show and had no bouncers.

A sad day a sad loss and a sad end to the last bastion of the working class .

    Loads more here Variety club
