  1. Thanks for the invite to The Wollaton Brew. I intended to join you on Saturday but I went in the Burnt Pig in Ilson for a snifter and met an old friend and so ended up in Canning Circus. I will get there one Saturday. What time to you normally assemble?
  2. Reading some of the fabulous posts on here has got the old memory bank on overtime. I went to Trent Poly in 1969 and was there a pub nearby called The Wilberforce near to a brilliant chippy? Also recall The Hand Inn and Dolphin. On the way back from Forest I would have picked up my Football Post, it's hard to believe but it was on the streets for about quarter past 5 after the game, and go in The Horse And Groom.Excellent house. Somebody mentioned Trumans, I vaguely recall it.When was it knocked down?
  3. Thinking of going into town for a few tomorrow afternoon about 2 ish. Is there anywhere for owd boggers like me ( 66 ) to go for a beer and meet like minded people who are happy to talk about music, Forest and owd Notts. I would be coming home about 6/7.
  4. I used to know a bloke when I lived in Beeston who used to drink in The Cadland about the late 70s. His name was John Marshall and he came from the Barrow in Furness area. Does anyone recall him? I've not seen him for about 30 years
  5. I must admit that even though I'm from Mong Eaton, Nottingham was always my town for drinking. I worked at Butlins Minehead from 1979 to 1983 and my best mate Jake's from Portsmouth. In about 1981 a group of 5 of them came up for the weekend. I'll never forget we walked into the Flying Horse just as the Council House clock struck 8 and went downstairs to the bar on the right that I always used. These poor buggers from the south could not believe Nottingham. They'd never seen so many women before and never seen people queuing to get in a pub. As I recall we did the usual run. Flying Horse, Lion
  6. Only just discovered this wonderful site. At the end of the 70s I lived in bed sit land better known as Mapperley Park, on Magdala Road and used The New Inn virtually every night of the week. A great pub with plenty of other bed sitters using it. A superb juke box and even though town was a ten minute bus ride away I rarely went there. Used The Grosvenor on occasions and The Gladstone but The New Inn was my base.
