Compo 10,328
I cut my thumb this morning whilst watching news on TV. I had a serrated knife in my hand and to see if it was sharp I absentmindedly drew it across my thumb pad. It WAS sharp.

Beefsteak 305
I tested the sharpness of a fishing hook with my thumb this afternoon!..........fortunately it was a barbless hook, and I'll say no more !
mick2me 3,033
Don't want to show my ignorance, but what's the point of a barbless hook? I always keep a roll of 'Micropore' tape ready for such repairs.
Bubblewrap 3,815
The point of a barbless hook is it doesn't hurt the fish as much when removing it & the damage to the(poor) fishes mouth is less.
mick2me 3,033
BW I Like that Idea, but doesn't it make it easier for them to jump off?
Bubblewrap 3,815
Get off yes/maybe but they make it more "sporting" Jump off? fish can't jump as they don't have legs :)
Beefsteak 305
Yup, thus giving the fish more of a chance and improving the skill of the angler (aledgedly) There's another school of thought though that says that it does more damage and kills more fish as anglers are more likely to just wind straight in on stronger line giving the fish less chance to get away and therefore tireing them out and stressing them more. mick2me 3,033
Perhaps its a little kinder to the worm?
