Buddy Holly in Chesterfield?.

Recommended Posts

I have seen a picture of Buddy Holly walking through Chesterfield market. who would believe it. I'm a big fan. Deems talented people die young, by ek I'm talented too. must be a payoff.

I once saw a letter Buddy wrote in reply to a fan in Crookes in Sheffield, one of mi fav places, a small suburb overlooking the moors. but produced so many famous people.

Joe Cocker, Def Leopard, Michael Palin, The Crookes. Jimmy Jewel, Paul Carrac, and a guy off a 70's tv series I cant think off at the moment about a boat builders.

I digress. Buddies letter, the writing was neat but very tiny. De Da Pete.

Perhaps this is the photo and a comment says he stopped off there on the way from Nottingham to play at Sheffield City Hall .

The only thing slightly confusing about the caption for the photo is that it says "Chesterfield MI" (Michigan) .

I don't know Chesterfield at all to recognise anything but perhaps others do ? The blurred sign above his head looks like "Ales Cathedral Vaults " which suggests it is the English Chesterfield rather than the USA one ?

A Bygones article on his concert at the Odeon

Sorted. Possibly.

My knowledge of Chesterfield can be written on the back of a very small postage stamp. But, by googling Cathedral Vaults, Chesterfield, I found references to a now-gone pub of that name in the Market Place, Chesterfield.

Streetview doesn't cover all of the area, but look at this view of Chesterfield market place and note the old white building. It's the reverse angle to the Buddy Holly photo. Three curved arch windows on the ground floor, with flat-top windows above. The Holly photographer was standing half way down the road looking up towards the Streetview camera (and allowing for "modernisation" and demolition).

 Aren't we privileged, to think that the late, great Buddy Holly once trod Chesterfield Market?

Never get tired of hearing Buddy; every record spin is as fresh as when I first heard.

 God Bless Buddy Holly, forever and ever....................................

Thank you my friend so true, they'll always be a place in my heart for him and his great music. I loved to play his songs on guitar. De Da Pete.
