Guest
I noticed the last time I was over the old pumping water tower on The Ropewalk. a fine building with great features. When did did pumphouse cease to be of use? ( if mentioned before please merge).

Cliff Ton 10,479
It must've gone out of use as a pumping station a long time ago; it was unused as far back as I can remember. The building on the left with the semi-circular roof was used for many years by Hooleys for new car preparation. The renovation looks pretty good; proof that not all modern buildings are ugly.
Guest
Very nice Cliff, thank you.Where would I like to live? That's not a bad pad! Our man's pushbike is in shot ( wasn't there a display of his bricks in Nottm recently?) Those Merc vans were a nightmare.. Snap on Tools had a rake of them.
poohbear 1,360
The old pumping station had to be disused because it was found that the water which it was supplying was contaminated by the General Cemetery.(Yuk!) It was built on the site of an old windmill which stood there until 1832 or thereabouts.
