Nottstalgia - Past, Present and Future

Recommended Posts

For the last couple of years, Nottstalgia has been slowly drifting along going nowhere, often with the same 10-12 people talking to each other about nothing in particular. Contrast that with a few years earlier, when there were many more people logging in, browsing and contributing to a variety of topics.

A major reason for the drop in activity is that Google wasn’t looking at Nottstalgia when producing search results.

For example, if someone - anywhere in the world - searched ‘Fairham Comprehensive Nottingham’  or ‘Bulwell Nottingham’ using Google, the results would not include any links to Nottstalgia, because Google simply ignored it. So very few ‘new’ people were finding Nottstalgia and making any contribution.

Other Search Engines (such as Bing or Yahoo or DDG) do include Nottstalgia in their results, but since Google accounts for around 85% of all internet searches, that’s a big loss.

Various technical changes have been made, and Google is now looking at Nottstalgia again, so hopefully a lot more new people will start finding the site and posting on it.

As an example, if you use Google to search 'Farrands grocer', one of the results will link you to Nottstalgia and Ben's favourite thread. And that wouldn't have happened a few days ago.

So now all his previous lady friends will be coming back.

There has been an increase in the number of new people registering; but there's also been an increase in the number of Spammers and Bots registering. Several have been flagged and removed in the last few weeks.

If you see anything in a foreign language ignore it, and don't click on any links.
