The week ending November 14, 1952 marked the first official week of the UK Single Chart when NME published the first record chart in their weekly magazine. The chart was purely based on record sales. At this time, it was counted from a pool of only 12 record shops, an amount which slowly increased over the course of the decade. Methodology of collecting sales information was all done in written form.
