notts12783 0
I broke my leg some time ago playing football and have had 2 operations on it. It still isn't healing and my doc wants to operate again, which sounds painful as he plans on taking bone from my hip . I'm desperate to get back to running and playing football again, but I really don't want to undergo another operation. Has anyone else had the same issue and is there anything that can help? (other than drinking pints of milk every day!). Thanks for your help!

mudgie49 401
Hi notts 12783, a lot depends on your age and health,if you are under 40 and a non smoker,go for the surgery. The older you get the longer the healing process. Football will wait for you, good health will not, best of luck whichever you choose.
littlebro 234
Prince Charles had a bone graft procedure on his arm at the QMC after falling from his horse? The op may 'sound painful' but ask for some anesthetic, they should oblige. Go for it.
jackson 301
The question here is why isn't your leg healing? If you haven't already done so, find out and then give the matter some thought . . . . surgery only as the last resort.
notts12783 0
The point I'm making is that I've already had 2 operations, which hasn't worked and now they want to do another one, which is going to cause more trauma, in a part of my body that is fine and there is no guarantee that it will work. I've done a bit of google research and have come across some bone stimulators, which do not require another op. Does anyone know anything about these or have had experience? letsavagoo 964
This is a fantastic website but it is a nostalgia website about Nottingham and there are limits. Seeking advice on what could be a life changing decision is beyond that limit. Here is not the place. I have long term health issues and know about pain discomfort and what an absolute bast**d poor health can be. Get a second opinion. Ask questions of the specialists and doctors. Tell them your concerns and fears but here is not the place to ask. Sure people will give you an opinion but without knowing a great deal more about you and your circumstances and medical knowledge you may unintentionally get bad advise. Good luck and seek the advice you need from those who are better placed to give it.
notts12783 0
letsavago, there are people talking about double glazing on this website! I sympahise with your 'poor health', but please keep your unconstructive comments to yourself. I have not broken any forum regulations and the administrator has even joined in on this thread. I am merely trying to broaden my chances by asking for other peoples advice who have had a similar experience...not hurting anyone. Apologies if this has caused you offense, in which case, I suggest you do not follow.
mick2me 3,033
I dont think Letsavagoo was saying not to post such questions here. More to be mindful that suitable advice would not always be correct in such. However it is very possible that peoples experiences could be of use. Also an important factor as raised earlier is age. notts12783 0
"here is not the place to ask".....? Seemed pretty clear to me Mick. I fully understand that medical advice is the way forward, but there are variations of medical opinions and this is what I'm trying to find out. There may have been others who may have down a different avenue (which may have been suggested by another healthcare proffessional).
letsavagoo 964
Hi Notts12783. I cannot agree that my comments were un-constructive. In fact I was very much trying to be constructive and helpful. Neither did I suggest or imply that you had broken any forum rules so goodness knows why you think I was. Your original post caused me no offence at all and my comments were meant 100% with your welfare in mind. The only reason I mentioned my health issues was to highlight the importance, to you, that your health is very important and you should do everything you can to keep yours. Perhaps it wasn't what you wanted to hear. Ask away by all means. Maybe your right. Someone here will help you to a decision but please just make sure that you make the right decision. I have obviously upset you which was not my intention. Don't lets fall out. Life is too short. I was giving you my opinion. Thats all. Good luck.
jackson 301
Hi Notts 12783, I consider that letsavagoo has answered your plight in a sensible way. His advice to: (quote) 'Ask questions of the specialists and doctors. Tell them your concerns and fears' is what you need to do. Ask your doctors their opinion /s on the bone stimulators that you have been researching into. Do not be afraid to ask questions, doctors are human and at the end of the day it is your health / your body that you are concerned with. So take time, try and relax and by doing this you may come to an intelligent decision as to what to do.
