  1. Oh - my fault. Didn't read your posts properly - was thinking of Margaret HATHAWAY. Will now ask him about Christina/Chris Tattershall!
  2. A reply from my friend Alan , Bilbraborn The name does ring a bell but I wonder if that is because of the Shakespearean connection! Am embarrassed because I cannot put a face to a name. The ability to tie a knot in cotton with one hand would suggest she worked in the Cotton Room. She should remember May Blanchard and Charlie Garratt.
  3. I was a frequent visitor to that library, too!
  4. Don't think the photos appeared in the magazine, they're just on the website. Would love to see that video......
  5. I remember the noise too, as I used to go there sometimes on a Saturday with my Dad and I also worked in the office during a school holiday once. I've put some photos of my Dad and others from Elastic Yarns on the Lenton Times website. Perhaps your wife might remember some of the others http://www.lentontimes.co.uk/streets/castle_boulevard.htm
  6. I'll ask Alan if he remembers her. My Dad, sadly, died a long time ago.
  7. Bilbraborn - my Dad was Ted Hurst. I'm also in touch with one of his old colleagues, Alan Rose, if she remembers him.
  8. Good to hear Mr Jacobs is still around. I used to see him wandering around town quite a lot, when I still lived in Nottingham. I went to Beechdale Infants briefly - probably 1961/62 (I'm 57). My brother, who's quite a bit older than me went there too - late 40's-early 50's, There are some photos on Friends Reunited of his age group.
  9. Teachers at BGS. Seeing as you were there 5 years after me I would be going out as you were coming in. Try Mr Protherough, Mr Williams, Miss Butler, Mr Stone (art), Mr Yarnell (Physics), Mr Wombwell (chemistry), Mr Kirton (Metalwark), Mr Jacobs (English), Miss Scott (French), Miss Skedge (English), Mr Robinson (chemistry) and another Mr Robinson (games). Dave Gingell was our Biology teacher. Guess what, They have built houses on my old rugby pitch. What sacrilege!!!!! Oh I do remember lots of those! Mr Williams, of course, then Mr Stone, Yarnell, Wombwell, Kirton. Jacobs, Gingell and Robi
  10. Oh dear Bilbraborn- I didn't know any of them! Now, what about the teachers at BGS? I'm sure I'd know some of the same ones as you!
  11. Wonder if she knew my Dad, who worked there for YEARS!
  12. Bilbraborn Sorry, no, didn't know the Brindley's. Any other names from Melford or Melbury?
  13. You were close to me then! I lived in a prefab on Glenbrook Crescent then when I was 8, moved to Melbury Road. I also went to Glenbrook and Bilborough Grammar although I'm about 5 years younger than you and don't recognise any of the names you've mentioned.
  14. There's one in 1887 , March quarter - might be him or might not! Hobby?! No, I charge! Harvey Ernest Nottingham 7b 326
  15. Have you got Ernest's birth cert? If so, you could check the address on there to see if they were still there in 1891.
  16. Unlikely she'd have to lie about her age to get in. Do the birthplaces match?
  17. I think this is Mary Harvey and family, who died 1923 and whose death was in the Post and whose Letters of Administration I found. Administrator was Harold Harvey, Newsagent. 1901 Harold Harvey Age: 13 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1888 Relation: Son Father's Name: George Harvey Mother's Name: Mary Harvey Gender: Male Where born: Nottinghamshire, England Civil Parish: Nottingham Ecclesiastical parish: St Saviour County/Island: Nottinghamshire Country: England Street Address: Registration District: Nottingham Sub-registration District: Nottingham South East ED, institution,
  18. You mention a John Harvey of Screveton who was Mary's brother. Was he the man who died in 1904 - "John Harvey, of Red Lodge Screveton, farmer and innkeeper" according to the National Probate Index. If so, he was too old to be Mary's brother - born around 1836, which is around the same time that Mary's parents were born.
  19. Yes, either is possible and there may be others - age on death certs wasn't necessarily exactly right.
  20. I realise it was 1923 - think it was just David's typo. There was only one death of a Mary Harvey in Nottingham in 1923 - registered in the March quarter, aged 59, which is presumably the one you've ordered, but I think this has to be the one in the Post
  21. I'm wondering whether the death cert you've ordered is for the lady in the Post who might not be yours. Which cert have you ordered? Which quarter and how old was she?
  22. There were Letters of Administration for the Mary Harvey found by David, above. Administration was granted to Harold Harvey, newsagent, and she left £174, which was quite a lot.
