  1. Yes, I did and now I can't wait for them to arrive!! I got teacakes, Parma Violets and Aniseed Balls, not to mention Sweet Peanuts and Chocolate Raisins. What a feast they are going to have.... who am I kidding, if they are not here when they arrive I will have a job saving them. Thanks again, it was a great walk down memory lane. A
  2. PLEEEEEEESE don't put any more links in like that, it has just cost me £20.00 for sweets for the grandkids!! A
  3. Do you visit the museum? Have you ever noticed a small fireplace in there, complete with all the copper measuring jugs and pans? It was made by my other halfs Grandfather, he was a tinsmith and used to make the measuring jugs for the local pubs and beer-offs in Radford. If you look closely at it you will see the name R Mart on the fire place, my husbands father. Interesting place the museum. A
  4. Do you remember the sweet cigarettes as well? How times have changed. They came on to the shelves when smoking was fashionable. If my memory serves me correct, didn't we have chocolate ciggys wrapped in paper? I remember the Tiger Nuts, they were fantastic. What about Cinder Toffee and Flying Saucers?? The list is endless, I think the malty stuff was Cod Liver Oil and Malt. There used to be Scotts emulsion as well. A
  5. Yes, you can still get Beechams Powders and Indian Brandy. It didn't have any alcohol in it so you can't blame your mum for your adiction!!! Did you have Syrup of Figs and Caster Oil?? What about the treacley stuff, was it something like molasses and another ingredient, I can't remember. It tasted like caramel and fudge. Do you remember Spanish Root, something akin to lumps of wood. Also halfpenny licqurice sticks. On the sweet side what about Black Jacks and boot laces. My mouth is watering!!! A
  6. Good to have the site back, I second Caz on the thanks to Mick for all his hard work in getting the thing up and running. Nice to see Ilko back on site, I for one have missed him. Did someone throw Daphne out of bed the wrong side yet again?? Has she no thought for those of us who admire the humour and wit of Ilko?? Happy posting. A
  7. Would it be a sunrise above the clouds? That would seem like sun colour in the sky. A
  8. When you do find out more then I would be very grateful if you would let me know. It must be the heat in the laundry that makes him so tired. I suppose after an hour or so it would be hard going. He must enjoy the work if he comes home so happy, no wonder you are hoping for a job like this. Chieungs' girlfriend should be thankful he is happy in his job!! A PS I have three sons who may be interested if any more posts in England come up.
  9. When you get this good job in Laundry, please would you tell me what sort of starch they use to stiffen the shirts. There is nothing smarter than a nice stiff shirt. A :D
  10. Does that make you the second from the left on the front row? If I am wrong this time I will have to guess in strict rotation. A
  11. Definitely the one on the left on the end, or am I wrong again?? I don't mind what you call me as long as you don't call me too late for my dinner. A
  12. Would it be Black Water Falls in West Virginia or is that not in the Southern Hemisphere?? Geography was not one of my strongest subjects at school but I don't mind making myself look an idiot. A
  13. I didn't say I was good at it!! It was only a guess BIP, I can always go back to the drawing board. Body language as a subject is fascinating. I am one of those people who could sit on the side lines and watch other people for hours. I am very inexpensive to take out as my husband will tell you, I find other people much more intoxicating than booze. It must narrow the possibilities down as Caz mentioned two and it cant by the one who looks like Prof Hawkins, that leaves just 14 to choose from. How about the one right at the left hand side on the back row as you look at the piccy?? Thi
  14. Have had a word with my sister and it appears she was very friendly with Norma and Stan Wood. They used to live in the yard before you got to Kinglake Terrace. They had two daughters one was called Anna, she had the baby very early on. June used to work at Gem, if you don't know, this was Asda before it became Asda and now Walmart. Will ask her some more when I speak to her next. Ann
  15. Second from the left on the back row? If you look at the picture of you in a cowboy suit your right shoulder is higher than your left. When you were embarressed you would drop the left shoulder and that is what you appear to have done in this picture. Just a theory, I studied body language for a year. If you want an interesting subject then try that... A
  16. I was also born and bred in Nottingham and realised from a very early age that I did not want a Nottingham accent. I don't like the way the ends of words with a 'y' are dropped down, i.e. Ey yu gorrany munay. It tends to make me cringe. Having said that I think Nottingham people are the best. They tend to make you feel welcome no matter where you are from. It is understanding them that others find difficult. A
  17. I would have thought with all the hot air that eminates from your other end then you would be jet propelled... A
  18. I married the man who sat behind him at school, The surname is MART so I am almost there. A
  19. Langley Mill is not covered by NTL, having heard bad reports about AOL and BT, a friend decided to sign up with Tiscali. The cost was £15.99 per month. The contract was for a year, much like most contracts. The 'offer' included free modem and set up. On signing up for this they received the modem, a splitter for the phone line and two in line filters. These were delivered yesterday through the post. Friend rang Tiscali to ascertain when they would arrive to set up the said modem, etc. We don't do that, you do! on asking about the free set up mentioned they were told we have done that f
  20. If you look at the write up you will see that IT WOULD MAKE A WONDERFUL SCULPTURE FOR THE 21ST CENTURY. A
  21. I think this would make a wonderful sculpture for the 21st century, the lines, or should I say circles, are aesthetically pleasing. A
  22. So, are you trying to say it is the Manchester shipping lane? A
  23. Is it an aquaduct in Scotland? As you can see, I am obsessed, or posessed, whichever fits... A
  24. Is it some sort of sea water reclaiming thingy that puts water into the agricultural land in Scotland? Anything to do with the Forth Bridge, when you get to the end there is a bit missing and you fall into a pond? A
  25. This looks like a water treatment plant or an oil refinery. Am I close?? or as usual, way off. A
