Yes Mary that's the one we used to go to as nippers always taking a pramful of woollens , beverley street was near Leicester street where we lived before demolitioned , we then moved to Bilborough, Denewood crescent.

Cannot make out the dome on St Augustine's (Gussies) though I am sure it should be there.
Gussies was on Northville Street with the school just behind and the playground (girls one side boys the other) abutted the church. I was there 1953-59.
In the distance on the right you can see Sycamore Street School halfway up the hill. Don't know what the bigger blocks are somewhere in the vicinity of Dame Agnes Street??
In the far distance beyond Sycamore Street School is the greenery of the allotments these stretched up from Hungerhill in St Anne's.
Siddha i used to walk up Dame agnes street to get to school at St augustines catholic school, from Leicester street in st anns , once it snowed very heavy in the 60s, i remember a milk van skiing down Dame agnes street, and crashing into a shop window at the bottom , a chemist shop i believe.

I remember a house on peas Hill road got struck by lightning and cause a fire , i also rember walking down Robin hood chase.
Wasnt there another school near st augustines, something like the Elms ?

Interesting view Cliff Ton, I have been trying to get my bearings, I haven't studied an aerial view of that area before. I think can see St Augustines Church, but can't see Watson Fothergils Baptist Chapel which I know is further down. Is it the white building, if it is, then I know where I am looking, I imagine that is the school yard next door; 'Or is it'? Thanks for the picture, I keep going back to it, I never realised there were so many large buildings, any idea what the large building about a quarter of the way down on the left side is and the road it is on.
Carni where the st augustines church is , i think the catholic school of the same name is further up the road on the left , i attend there in the 60,s , not realizing marple street was within walking distance .

An aerial view of Woodborough Road, probably around the 1930s, looking towards Mapperley at the top and city at the bottom. As a reference point, the arrow is Cranmer Street.
Thank you cliff ton , that must be marple street to the left of the arrow ?

Thank you Stuart , i have happy memories messing about on those steps leading to marple street , even one day my mam caught me smoking a ciggy on them steps , and ask why i wasn't at school!
-
My grandma used to live in Marple street , just off Cranmer street , you'd go down some steps onto marple street , i looked on Google maps and i think today Goldswong avenue must of been near to that location , i am talking 1960s Nottingham . I am looking for the exact location of marple street as i was born there in the 50,s.

Hi there. Now I've requested this forum, I'd better start the ball rolling.
Heard from my brother in Rise Park, that the Barleycorn and The Red Lion, both in Cinderhill, have or are going to, close down. My mother would turn over in her grave if she knew her watering holes were gone! Brother also said, that lots of pubs are closing at a rate of knots. I know the Cocked Hat in Aspley had gone, also the Duke of Newcastle in old Basford. Sad goings on.
I remember the cocked hat in Aspley ,me and my brother were only nippers and my dad would say sit on that wall and i will bring you out lemonade and peanuts , whilst he supped inside !
Lived in Bilborough them days Denewood crescent.

Never went to Carrington lido but spent a lot of time at Papplewick and Calverton lidos and they too were freezing, never seemed to bother us though.
Can't remember any time limit and often spent the full day there, no sunscreen then which is probably why I keep having to have chunks cut out of me.
Didnt there used to be a lido down at the trent bridge somewhere abouts , across the road from the river trent ?
