  1. A couple of weeks ago I attended the Woodthorpe Park History Walk and somebody mentioned that the platforms to Sherwood station are still there - they were never demolished, just covered.
  2. The Evening Post seem a bit shambolic at the moment, I rang their newsdesk on Monday offering them some pictures of the fire on the Wells Road - they asked me to email the pictures so I asked if there were any size limits on e-mail attachments. I was assured there wasn't. To be on the safe side, I split the images into two e-mail and sent them. An hour later I get the message, So as far as I know, they didn't get the pictures.
  3. Well, I can't see anything - it's always too cloudy.
  4. Sony cameras (formerly Minolta) are really quite good, Carl Zeiss do some of the lenses for them and they're one of the best in the business. As for the kit lenses that come with Canon and Nikon cameras - they're not as bad as some people make them out to be.
  5. The Belle Vue is no more, totally flattened - to be replaced by a care home.
  6. I found a couple of nice pics of the man himself, http://www.gettyimages.com/Search/Search.aspx?contractUrl=2&language=en-US&family=editorial&assetType=image&p=reg%20leafe
  7. There's a nice article in the Evening Post on our illustrious referee, http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/sport/Leafe-man-big-occasion/article-2282314-detail/article.html
  8. I agree with Radfordred, Imelda May was brilliant - she's got so much talent, I'm not surprised people like Jeff Beck sometimes use her talents. Of the other acts, The Feelgoods and The New Amen Corner were ok; but I was quite impressed with the Animals, maybe because I didn't expect a lot - anyway, they had Chris Farlowe as guest vocalist. I took a few snaps thinking you might like to see a few familiar faces. Cliff Bennett of Rebel Rousers fame Chip Hawkes from the Tremeloes Steve Ellis from Love Affair The New Amen Corner The Animals Chris Farlowe - guested as part of t
  9. It's a long time ago now but they descended on the Flying Horse to celebrate their victory. Upstairs bar if I remember correctly.
  10. Lots of interesting items / features on Alan Sillitoe over at Left Lion - http://www.leftlion.co.uk/
  11. Just to add, Imelda May is really good - I think people on here will like these samples. Bring on the bass...
  12. Considering it's a freebie it's well worth going along. I don't think the line-up is as strong as last year - the Manfreds/Alan Price were amazing and it's a bit of a shame that there's no new talent on show; last year we had three really good acts. The Animals are not the band we know from the sixties but it will still be interesting to see them linking up with Spencer Davis.
  13. It's in the Market Square and it's free.
  14. Andy Fairweather-Low is touring with his own band, he's actually on at the Concert Hall next Friday (26/3). You can find The Animals and Friends line-up here http://www.animalsandfriends.co.uk/
  15. The line-up subject to confirmation. Sat 29/5/10 Matchbox The Jet Wee Willie Harris Glen Darren and the Krew Kats Boney M featuring Maizie Williams The Real Thing Sun 30/5/10 Imelda May Dr Feelgood Paul Lamb and the King Snakes Todd Miller presents the Joe Loss Orchestra Mon 31/5/10 Animals with special guest Spencer Davis The New Amen Corner with special guests Cliff Bennett, Chip Hawkes and Steve Ellis. The Fab Four Looking forward to the Feelgoods and Monday looks like fun.
  16. Always admired Michael Foot - my sort of politician; a great writer and idealist, somebody who was honest, had values and went into politics to serve the people he represented. He was also a real socialist unlike much of the Labour Party today. He'll be missed.
  17. Although I don't post here very often anymore, it's nice to see the site back; it really is a wonderful resource.
  18. I'm sure I read somewhere they were considering raising the price of a first class letter to a £1; as for taking on a bunch of strike breakers - I don't think that will create an atmosphere of compromise.
  19. Personally, I full support the aims of the Climate Group. http://www.climatecamp.org.uk/ Calling these protesters derogatory names and benefit scroungers displays a severe lack of understanding and tolerance.
  20. But just look at the cost and how they treat their own people. http://lens.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/10/14/showcase-65/
  21. I suspect they're working on it, last time I was there (a couple of months ago) the fountains were definitely working and I don't think Victoria was fenced off; having said that, it does need money spending on it - especially the fenced off area at the back of the memorial.
  22. I don't remember an annexe on Hamilton Road, when was that?
  23. I agree with Tich, I think pavement parking is becoming far more prevalent and I'm just glad I don't have to wheel a pushchair or wheelchair through some of the narrow gaps; it's motorists being totally selfish. Pavements are for people not for cars.
  24. Noticed some builders working on The Porchester but have no idea on what it's going to be used for?
