  1. Thanks for the welcome Cliff Ton I've only been around here 7 years - just don't do much posting - only reading! Interesting thought. We are further mystified by the fact both deaths were in February/March whereas Bulwell wakes were October time and held around Holborn Place which was hardly a 'Showground'. I do get your point about the Horsefield though.
  2. Doing some research and Northern Cemetery Registers have two deaths in 1926-7 where the place of death is: One reads: 'Showgrounds' The other: 'Caravan Horsefield Showground'. Both entries Parish of Bulwell. Now my family have been around Bulwell for over 140 years and we've never heard of 'Horsefield'. The obvious candidate would be Mellors Fields over the City Boundary but they are in Hucknall Parish. Anyone any suggestions? Thanks Mitch
  3. Anyone tell me the location in post 44 of the 64 bus going to Bestwood Estate is please? Thanks.
  4. I can confirm that the model engineer railway was on the Hucknall Road Roundabout, and opened in 1953. They moved because they wished to expand and needed a new entrance - the highways authority wouldn't let them expand the roundabout entrance and said they needed a exit on Valley Road, with associated slip road etc, at the societies cost which they couldn't afford. The majority of members moved to the Nottingham Heritage Centre, as a continuation of the Nottingham Society of Model & Experimental Engineers. A splinter group, know as the Valley Road Model Engineering Society set up home a
  5. I have added two detailed 1954 maps of part of Park Lane, Park Place, Selwyn Close, Kelfield Close, Saxondale Drive, Naworth Close & Thorner Close here: http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/mitch7532/library/Maps#/user/mitch7532/library/Maps?sort=3&page=1&_suid=136907914195109557065865522543
  6. Bulwell maps have moved slightly and are now in a general maps folder here: http://s1236.beta.photobucket.com/user/mitch7532/library/Maps/Bulwell%20Maps?page=1 Mitch
  7. I have added some 1955 maps of Old Basford to photobucket. They include the areas around Percy St, Lincoln St, Vernon Road, Southwark Street, Park Lane etc. There are also a few from about 1913 of part of the area. Link here: http://s1236.beta.photobucket.com/user/mitch7532/library/Maps? Mitch
  8. According to the Book on Nuttall the 'Army huts from the 1914-18 war were bought in to house the children. This was a "temporary" arrangement which lasted 45 years'. No mention of POWs in there I'm afraid.
  9. Well I've taken the large map and split it into bits! Hopefully this will be a little clearer.... I've place them in one folder which is here: http://s1236.beta.photobucket.com/user/mitch7532/library/#/user/mitch7532/library/Bulwell%20Maps?&_suid=135513844816109385326440926497
  10. Yes that is an improvement! They were scans of a photocopy, and the ink must have been low on the library printer as they weren't very sharp! Sorry!
  11. Thanks, I have tried to post maps before but failed, but now I have photobucket I'll dig out some others I have of Basford etc. The houses on the south side of Highbury Road were all demolished before I was born. But my Mother came from Oxford Street, her Grandmother from Latimer Street, her Grandfather from Deptford Street. Various Aunts and Unclers lived on Northcote and Chatham Streets, Padley Street and even Dora Terrace. I have no family photos of these streets but if anyone has any, esp of Oxford St, it would be good to see them. Thanks Mitch
  12. Part of Highbury Vale 1955 [/img] [/img] [/img] Hope they are of use to someone.
