Not the sharpest image I've ever posted, but I'm pretty sure this is the house.

@Jill Sparrow there are another thread or two hereabouts where I have mentioned Stoneycroft.
It occupied a whole block between Wilton Street and Wallis Street, with the main entrance on Arnold Road. I think it
Is it the large place shown in the middle of here ?
Park Tavern is on the corner of Barlock Road (which hadn't yet reached up to Arnold Road.

This subject of houses and factories on Arnold Road seemed vaguely familiar........and it's in this old thread.

First General election i recall was 1951.........
The first one I paid any close attention to was 1970. Late in the evening by chance I started watching the first results on TV, and to my surprise I stayed watching well into the middle of the night.
At that same election, I saw Harold Wilson when he visited Clifton and stood at the open upstairs window of someone's house and addressed the crowd with a megaphone/loud hailer.

More than any other election in recent times, I think many people will vote on the basis of who they don't want rather than who they do want.

You may have already seen it, but Pearsons have a Wiki page which gives the names of various members of the Pearson family. Someone with access to Ancestry etc might be able to make it all add up (or not).
-
That caught a lot of people by surprise........including the large number of Conservative MPs who will soon be looking for a real job.

@susyshoes Wow, that's a blast from the past.
I remember you from way-back-when, and a few other names are still here.....but not as many as the old days.
And there's not as much Nottingham-related material as there used to be.

The house in the story seems to be on the corner of Trafalgar Close. https://maps.app.goo.gl/SjUzJnLPzVEcrUMP8
Most of that side of Hartley Road has been 'modernised', whereas most of the other side has survived, albeit looking much scruffier than previously.

Mid-way through my school life there was a big change in the way teachers addressed pupils.
At infants and junior school teachers always spoke to children using their first name; surnames were an almost unknown thing.
But moving to secondary school, it was all surname with no mention of first names.
It took me a while to get used to that; it seemed a bit cold and harsh.

As is often the case, I found another old thread on this subject.

It's fascinating the way names come in and out of fashion over the years.
I can't get over is the fact that the top name for boys this year is Noah. That would've been beyond a joke when I was at school.

After all this exercise I took sustenance here ,the food and coffee was great but Ben was never sighted, I even took my glasses so I could recognise him if he was about. Although I failed this time I will continue my quest to find him another time,
A reminder of what he looks like in his natural habitat, some time last year.

Once again, no-one from Nottingham has appeared on the Sunday Times Rich List.

Grimshaw, though he painted mainly land and cityscapes was very, very good...
I'm a big fan of Grimshaw.

Same with music.
Something which one person likes is just a noise to someone else.

I'm also not very impressed by it.
It looks like a head (albeit recognisable and well-painted) floating around in a pomegranate.

An old Black Country expression.
I'm going into the back room to slice my bacon.

The name didn't ring any bells so I had to look him up.
Then I realised I had heard of him, but hadn't remembered the name. I agree his work is amazing, but obviously can't be seen by many people at any one time.

I've been on an iMac since I first had a computer; largely as a result of working in Graphic Design and doing my 'training' as part of the job. There's no way I'd go via Windows, who I associate with (at least in the early days) being a bit rubbish.
However, I don't have - and won't have - an iPhone which I think is overpriced and unnecessary. My mobile is a Motorola running Android; it's a fraction of the price of an iPhone and does what I need.
My laptop is a Lenovo Chromebook.
So I've got a foot in most camps.

Replying to a post from 16 years ago deserves some kind of prize !
Unfortunately @lesley kevindolphin hasn't been here for a couple of years, but hopefully he may find your message.
Looking back on this whole thread, there's a surprisingly large number of people who made a small number of posts and then disappeared.

The strange names come from the fact many were Vietnamese.
Yes, it's either that or mid-European, such as Albanian/Poland/Croatia/etc etc.
And to prove the other point I made about the frequency of raids, only today.......

Getting back to the original query for new member "Ryedale" to find lost cousins , he was defeated by the vagaries of this site and was unable to get back to the thread.
I understand and agree with your comment about this site.....but I have to admit that I probably made things worse by moving his original post into another thread. It had originally been posted in a thread about steam trains and railways.
